I have Truvativ cranks and chain rings on my Stumpjumper and after changing my chain and cassette last week I realised that the 36t chain ring was knackered (new chain was slip sliding and jumping all over it!). Well it had done over 3500 miles in 3 years so I figured that was quite good. Anyway trying to track down a new ring in the UK was not easy lots of high price stuff up to £95 or web site ads that then said out of stock! The best prices I found were in the US, Hong Kong and Germany all around £40. I ordered one from Germany, bike-discount.de, as I had used them before, their prices are very competitive and delivery is usually within a few days.

My query is this: SRAM took over Truvativ in 2004, but are they still making Truvativ parts today? Clearly they were in 2016 when my Stumpjumper was made, but what about now. Anyone else have this problem? Should I be stockpiling Truvativ parts? Did I just look in the wrong places for the part?

Comments and opinions appreciated. Cheers

You could have used any* chainring with the right bolt circle diameter (BCD) or splines if its a splined fitting.

*I don't imagine truvativ would have produced anything super proprietary.

The chap in our LBS said something similar, he had used a Shimano ring to replace a Truvativ one, but had to file down part of the ring to make it seat properly. I didn't want to order online (LBS's didn't have anything they could confirm was compatible) and then start (possibly) hacking it around to get it to fit. It's 104mm fit so plenty of rings out there in that size, but getting one that would definitely fit just from looking at a photo isn't what I wanted to do.
