Years ago I tried a Truvativ crankset in Shimano HT2 bottom bracket shells, both 24mm axles. They lasted a couple of weeks.
I think it was the side loading of the bearings which caused the prompt failure.
I now want to know if it will work the other way around.
My wife has taken delivery of a SS Fortitude and we want to swap out the Truvativ SS crankset for some Shimano 2 piece cranks. Unfortunately whoever built the bike must be at least be as stong as an Orangutan and I cannot budge the new Truvativ BB.
The Shimano cranks will not side load the bearings in the same manner as the Truvativ cranks. I am guessing that this shouldn't make any difference and that she should at least get a good few months out of the Truvativ BB prior to destroying it to get it out of the frame.
Anyone tried it?
Won't go. The bearing on the lhs has a smaller internal diameter on Truvativ compared to Shimano.
Thanks
Not all GXP BB are different bearings. One I had was equal bearings with an adaptor for the spindle on the non drive side.
