How do you stop the spokes from twisting? I take it there must be a special tool, what is it called as 'spoke' search on CRC isn't bringing anything up

Bladed spoke holder? I think the one I've got is made by Shimano.

Tried an adjustable wrench still twisted and looked like the spoke was going to snap. Or is there a trick to it? I was trying by holding the spoke in the middle

Hold as close to the nipple as you can, proper tool makes it a little easier. Mine's from Superstar and hasn't killed me (yet).

Get a piece of hardwood about 30-50mm long, cut a slot in it with a junior hacksaw. Job done.

My Shimano RS81 road wheels have bladed spokes and come with a valve key and a special spanner for stopping the spokes form twisting. Basically a small bit of metal with a slot in it.
