Hi all,
Anyone ever replaced any of the internal components from Spyres? After a couple of years of neglect mine had pretty much siezed up so I stripped & rebuilt them - I cleaned everythign as best I could & whacked a load of grease in but the tiny little bearing race & the 3 cam bearings were looking a bit sorry for themselves tbh.
I vaguely remember hearing that the TRP official line was that they weren't user serviceable & service parts weren't available but has anyone looked up the bits themselves - the 3 cam bearings don't look that hard to replace for but before I strip them again has anyone else ever found anything to replace the old crusty internals with? They still work ok, just not as smooth as they once were...
Cheers!
I found TRP pretty hopeless for spares although I thought there was an exploded view of parts somewhere online.
Try SJS they seem to be able to supply small parts if available.
Cheers, yeah had followed that guide the first time I rebuilt them - pretty handy, the only thing that appears to be available as a spare part from TRP is the pad adjuster & barrel adjuster, I might just pull them apart again & add fresh grease to see if the bearings feel any better after rolling around in that, the bike they're going on is currently a work in progress so I have a bit of time to play about with them before I need them.
Cheers!
J
Try emailing Upgrade. I eventually got some new pad adjusters from them even though the first guy i spoke to at Upgrade told me that these couldn't be replaced - until i pointed him to the service video on TRP's own you tube tube channel. Once i got past him they were helpful.
Anyone managed to find replacement main bearings for these? Mine are kind of brown and square.
Don’t mind buying loose and pop them in the race if anyone knows the correct size or has a proper measurerer?
I was just about to go down this route but then someone pointed me towards the Giant Conduct hydro kit. Not the most attractive thing but means I could replace the trp spyre callipers (mine were very knackered) with hydros yet keep my existing STIs
Much, much better and well worth £90.
I measured the cam balls as 0.116" / 2.95mm. Didn’t measure the thrust bearings unfortunately.
That sounds about right re. cam bearing size, I ended up just soaking mine in wd40 for a bit & cleaning them up as best I could, they were actually not bad once rebuilt - the thrust bearing balls will come out of the race if you're not careful so keep an eye on that when giving them a rub with blue roll or whatever, I never did find replacements for those but i'm sure I found the cam bearing dimensions somewhere & a shade under 3mm sounds right.
