Hi all.
I want to get rid of be god awful BB7s on my CX/training bike. Can't afford an upgrade to full hydros at the moment, and it's 'only' my training bike anyway. It's already got Hope rotors on it, but I've heard people having issues with these fitting TRP spyres - does anyone use them together? If so did you have to make any mods to anything?
Cheers
Used some of the 'race' ultra thin Hope floating rotors on my crosser.
Was using TRP Spryes with no issues.
Well did try using 140mm but that fouled the spokes on the wheels!
160 was fine with the relevant adaptors.
Thanks,
Max
Hopes are odd sizes are they not? 203mm rather than 200mm etc - so you may need to swap rotors.
I've also a set of Spyre's on order for my road/cx bike, and I'm pretty sure that they come with the rotors in the box....
Just go for a v-twin 😉
Thanks Turnerfan1, that's good news, I've got the x2s already.
Monkeyboyjc the 160mm ones are a standard size, so no issue there. I've already got the Hope rotors and prefer a floating design as I seem to warp discs fairly frequently and trying them drives me mental.
Wiggles a vtwin would be nice, I'll weigh that up against a set of TRPs when it gets to payday, but think I'd rather save that extra money for my MTB 🙂
Thanks all.
Set my Spyres up last week with new Hope floaters, there was a very slight rubbing of the caliper on the rivets, same as Shimano calipers do on mtbs, but once aligned and tweaked they're running fine. If necessary you can file a couple mm of the caliper, I have done on my Shimano XTs and Saints
The trps are really good but you will need to use 160 or above if you want to use the floating rotors as the 140 hits the caliper. I had the hope floating rotors on my Mtb and I thought they were a bit rubbish, they feedback though the brakes was like having abs
My Hope '180' floating rotors are 183 - caused issues with XT brakes too. I think the 160 was OK though. Have to say I preferred the feel of the cheaper solid rotors when I swapped them out anyway.
I'm running 140 rear 160 front and the minor issue was with the 160, 140 works fine.
The 183 works fine with a 183 adapter, the issue is the caliper rubbing on the rivets
Should have mentioned i'm not planning on running 140s, i have the 160s, so sounds like it should be ok.
chrishc777, thanks for the feedback, really useful. Sounds like with a little mod it should be ok.
Well, just to close this out, my Spyres arrived today and I fitted them this evening. I can confirm they fit with the X2 race rotors and don't have any issues hitting the rivets - I used the mount/bracket from the BB7s, but otherwise this is all done unadapted with standard pads etc. I just need a new cable and ferrule and I'm done! Power and set up is SO.MUCH.BETTER than the BB7s.
Thanks for the advice 🙂
