2 x XML Led's throwing out 1800 lumens, in it's prototype stage next to my unreparable light and Motion Arc light, the Led now uses the L&M battery

Beam shots on there own to follow once they arrive and shots with the Lumen Liberator as well.

Bring on Thursday's night ride

He's made a 4 xml light too.. thread on mtbr..3800 lumens.. insanity!

Is it a helmet light?
It'll Be a bit of a spotty beam with those laura RS optics!

SpaceHopper

the Quad is to be dismantled and made into 2 lights as the 4 Regina Reflectors dont perform well enough IMHO

this one is for me the perfect helmet light with an incredible range of both lumens and distance .
these XML leds are something else with the right optic and you can also swap for a wider optic and swop range for flood .

its certainly a Betty beater 😈

Now there's the rub it is more efficient than the older leds .

No run time tests as it is Johns L&M battery so I dont know the Amp hour of it
All I know is it is a 11.1 volt Li Ion pack with 6 cells so I am quessing it is a 4.4 amp hour pack

so 48 watts capacity
the 2 XMLs are 6.5 volts and if on full 3 amps = 19.5 watts
so a runtime for John if on high would be 2.46 hours
but his batteries are old so who knows .

low and medium would be used the most with high for the registered blind 😯

so to answer your question Steve for the double ideal battery would be 11.1 volts and above a 7.4 volt would be a bit close to the VF of the leds

just measured the draw from a 15v 2.6 amp hour volt battery
37 watts capacity

low 80 Ma runtime 30 hours rideable
medium 280 ma runtime 8 hours Kin Bright
high 1400 ma run time 1 hour 45 mins WTF is that

Yes I will be hacking the odd one out

cost wise to be thought about when I make another one

Cobbled one up for me with integrated rear red leds as I keep losing rear lights .

here is a blair witch video of Johns light .

the big red button should have a big GO! printed on it 😀

watched the video and it looks like a fantastic little light! and when you turn it up to high... 😯

*wants some XMLS and a 3A driver to play with*

Think the Laura Optics are brilliant... (apart from the wide optic.. thats just rubbish!) just wished that farnell had some of the smooth spot.. the Real spot is just a bit too tight for me.. though the diffuser optics (if they ever arrive) might be the one..!

Hi Trout & JC

I'm in the same boat. The bulb/ballast on my L&M arc unit are on their last legs and I emailed Trout last night about options for a head unit to utilise my battery and charger.

Will be very interested in seeing whats been done, beam shots and feedback etc

Trout - Let me know if you didnt receive my mail (email in profile) Ta.

A package has arrived at home.

If it's Trouties so called "Bastid" light I'll get some beam shots up on here tonight alongside his Lunem Liberator shots for a comparison.

Trouties new prototype "Bastid" light on High
Taken on a pocket Sony Cybershot Fireworks settings
[img] [/img]

His Lumen Liberator on High
[img] [/img]

Both lights together, white rabbit at 12 paces back fence at 20 paces
[img] [/img]

And now on the normal setting without flash
[img] [/img]
It even melted the rabbit away

Don't ride in front of me 😯

Looking good!

Shame we don't have the original arc HID to compare!

How do you think it compares to the HID (when new) 2x 4x 6x etc?

I have the Ultra 9 cell battery, be nice to know how long it lasts on high?

Thanks

I am a bit confused John

when you say Hi for the lights is that low / Hi / Boost .

and is that last shot both lights on boost .

so here are some of my shots comparing known lights with the dual XML

First of course the Bastid on full whack
[IMG] [/IMG]

then the 7UP @ 1 amp drive current
[IMG] [/IMG]

and finally the dual XML @ 3 amps drive current
[IMG] [/IMG]

I didn't get a manual with it 😉
So mine I feel has 4 settings
off
low
med
high (is this boost?)

Anyway heres some shots I took using my Sony Cyber Shots Firework setting which gives a natural light but maybe doesn't show it at it's best then a normal shot which is a bit of over kill I guess?

Yes the fence needs painting....

Its difficult to get realistic photos of beam shots
Are you getting a ride tonight
then you will know if it is better than the Hid it replaced .

Let us know how it stacks up on a ride

Let us know how it stacks up on a ride

given his recent rides i think using the word "stack" is slightly unfortunate 🙂

Will do, I'll take my camera as well.

Your right about the shots, the firework settings don't do them any justice but the normal levels as a bit OOT as well.

2 shots from tonights wet and windy ride, for the shots both the LL and the Bastid were on full

As for the power I use to have to run the LL on full with my Ay Ups.
Tonight both the LL's and the new Bastid helmet light were on 1/2 power and even then cars on a short road section were flashing me as they were too bright and a couple more really slowed down when coming towards us as they couldn't see their bit of road clearly.
