Morning all,
I need to replace the BB on a Trek Procaliber 9.6 which has a 92mm press fit BB, currently Shimano MT500 but am getting a bit confused with the numbers (read hectic night shift brain fart). So I wondered of anyone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction for a Shimano and Hope replacement as I have to get back to the ward now pretty please?
I bought one of these for mine:
Can't help with Hope but everybody said when I asked not to bother spending too much as they are all basically the same.
The Hope replacement press fits actually screw together so are a long term solution as subsequently just the bearings need replacing. They are expensive but if sourced at r.r.p. from a bike shop they should fit for free. If you want to do it yourself then I can lend you the tool. Hope this helps..
Here you are, https://www.hopetech.com/products/drivetrain/bottom-bracket/press-fit-pf41-bottom-bracket/
Thread together ones are good if your shell is out of spec leading to creaking. But downside is inner bearing race running directly on crank axle - seen some damage from the steel/steel contact (though way less frequent than Alu 29/30 axles on steel races).
if no creaks I’d fit Shimano. If creaky, I’d choose a Wheeks MFG thread together as it doesn’t require proprietary tools, and is simpler to fit than the Hope one.
I have the Hope press fit tool already and happy to spend the money for a long term solution but suspect that I am getting mysekf in post night shift can't brain muddle.
Trek have said the BB is for a 24mm spindle crankset for 89.5mm BB so THIS without the 2.5mm spacer?
