They’ve just launched an aluminium one, haven’t they?

They have, but wondered why there were a few offers on the carbon ones.

there have been no rumours of a new exe, the alu one was just released. I think the offers are just due to all bikes being a bit slow to sell right now, there seems to be offer on lots of bikes , not just exe's.

I have an exe, had it for nearly a year now.

Because trek and a lot of the other big companies who panicked during COVID and then got caught out by the slump have a lot of inventory on the warehouse shelves to clear out.

Some 8k bikes are now less than 1/2 that price and that's the manufacturer discount not just the retailers

@julians what’s your thoughts on the exe, would you recommend and do you ever think you would have been better with a full power e-bike? Curious as they have pricked my interest recently especially as there’s decent discounts on the go.

Cheers.

what’s your thoughts on the exe

It's a good bike, rides well, descends very nicely, I've comes from a succession of 160mm+ enduro bikes,so this is my first shorter travel bike, but it feels capable. We're off to Spain next month with switchbacks, normally I take my 170mm yt Capra, but this year I'm taking the exe because it rides better than the Capra. I'll be leaving the main battery at home as its capacity exceeds what is allowed to be taken on planes, but I'll be taking just the range extender. To be honest even if I couldn't take the range extender I'd probably still choose to ride the exe over the yt,it rides like a normal bike with the motor off,and it's better than the Capra.

I think it's a bit expensive for the spec you get,I bought the cheapest and upgraded most of the components.

You need the range extender battery imo too,but this depends how far you want to ride. The built in battery is good for 3000feet of vertical, the range extender will add another 1100-1500 feet.

Now the bad bits: I've had one motor replaced under warranty, but from reading the forums the motor seems pretty reliable on the whole, you see a few stories of replacement motors, but not too many.

I also had the frame replaced under warranty due to a crack, I have no idea what caused it,but the new frame has been good, there have been a few on the Facebook group that have cracked, but weirdly the cracks are in different places,so feels more like a QC issue than a frame with a weak spot.

I'm lucky enough to also have a full fat ebike (orbea wild FS with the Bosch cx gen 4 motor), I never ride the orbea anymore,I just prefer the agility of the exe. I can hop the exe about but I can't with the orbea. Power wise the exe on max feels like the orbea in tour mode. The power of the orbea is addictve though , and I totally get why a lot/most people prefer full fat over the lower power bikes.

There are hills that the exe can't get up,but the orbea can easily.

I think if all your mates have full fat bikes then you probably also need a full fat

No, I've got one that will fit,so maybe I should try it,but I kind of don't see the point.

@julians thanks for that, I think I need to get myself down to the local shop and have a good chat with the staff and see what their experience has been with ones that have passed through the workshop, and maybe just stop over thinking things!
