Hi all fellow owners.

I started this thread so I could spout off about how excellent my bike is and I would like other Fuel Ex owners to agree with me.

Seem fair?

Are they the ones that snap at the chainstay?

I do agree with you, and I've had mine nearly 3 years 😀 and no plans to change it any time soon

Had mine for 3 year and I'm on my 4th frame 🙂
Not the chainstay problem mind, never had that. Mines an EX9 tho :-p

Good to hear it. The old Fuel Ex deserves a bit more praise on here I think. Threads about Ragley's, On-One's and Orange are getting a bit tedious

Love mine!
Moved on from a Ti hardtail and to be honest never looked back, seems that I did not have the skills reqd for a HT but the FS does well to compensate.

I've owned two now, best bike I've owned by far, much better than either Santa Cruz I owned before, the suspension is so compliant and also the sizing spot on, probably won't appeal to the Singletrack forum collective not being niche or from Halifax but simply a good priced bike that works extremely well

I'm not as good as you guys ^^^ 'cos I've only got a lower specced EX7 but it's brilliant anyway 🙂

Mind you, I'd chuck it straight in a skip with no regrets if an Orange 5 came my way ......

My 08 Ex snapped on the downtube weld above the pivot mount.

Luckily Trek has a lifetime warranty for the original owner - so got a nice new ex9 replacement frame !!!

I have an ex8 and an orange 5 - how common am I? both very good bikes, the ex8 is good for all day rides but the five is a lot more fun and better built!

Had mine since early 08 and it's been great. 1 warranty claim (new chainstay replaced without question). Added a KS i900 and it makes a great bike better... Will post a pic later.

got an '11 model as an update on my 05 FSR S Works. heavier but very nice, and i liked the EX8 sepia colour way. Pity anodising is poor vs the S Works, but otherwise recommended... especially with white crudguards 🙂

Got an 08 ex7 with various upgrades as things have died. Great bike, let down only by it's magnetic downtube that attracts rocks like nothing else. Mine has several dents in it 🙁

Heres mine. 2010 upgrade from a 4" Hardtail Merlin and it really is a great bike. Inspires confidence instantly although maybe this is always the case moving to FS i dunno. It handles really nicely though and you feel like you are sat in the bike rather than on it.

Woohooo... I'll have to get some pics of mine up. Glad to hear about the no fuss warranty... not that I've needed to use it yet, but it's good peace of mind all the same.

My fave aspect of the bike is the suspension - I don't have much experience for comparisons but it does seem to swallow the most hideous teeth chattering trails and it's forgiven me in some pretty hairy situations.

Fuel Ex owner's unite.... 5, 6, 7, 8, 9's

I was so inspired last night I actually got out for a night ride in the cold pishing rain and wind. Roll on Summer.

I've got 2.1 Bonty Mud-X's on at the moment, which kind of "look right" on the bike - gives it a lean and mean stance - as well as saving my bacon in the clag.

I just picked up a Trek Fuel ex 8 2010 today. Drove all the way to Wrexham excited then got it home only to then realize it was a 18.5 frame and not a 17.5 frame.

I'm 5ft 10 and did a quick blast around park and it seemed ok but I'm hoping a shorter stem will make that much better fit.

So when that arrives I'll be posting how good (fingers crossed) it is too

I'm 5'11'' and my 18.5 is bob on. You'll be fine on that mate - it'll need a longer stem anyway as the stock one is waaaaay too long. Hammered mine over Garburn Pass today - magic.
