Anyone been? And, if you have, do they take (clean!) bikes in the rooms? Looking at possible locations near BPW, and wanted to check out re security.

TIA!

in general, walk in with bike, if asked tell them you are taking to your room and keep walking. In a proper hotel just ride it to the lift and they still have to call you sir...

Just leave them outside. No need to lock them up even, there's no crime round there.

Never had a problem at any hotel, Premier Inn or Travelodge inc. Hilton at Newport. In fact most let us lock them in a conference room.

The PI in Llantrisant said they were used to it as long as they are clean, and as they werent the then gave us some spare towels to put on the floor!

So PI in Llantrisant isnt so conventient for BPW - but FYI it is conveniently located next door to Glamorgam A&E......

Never had a problem with bikes in travelodge (or similar places) on numerous occasions.

I'd give it a wash down first, out of general courtesy, mind.

Taken bikes into countless Travelodge/Premier Inn/Days Inn/Ibis/Holiday Inns over the years, not always clean, never once had a comment!

I'd expect you to reside in a private lodge in England and be escorted over the border and back again. Have your standards dropped far enough to contemplate a chain hotel? 😯

We used the Windsor Travel Lodge earlier this year and most of Long Eaton Velo Club had their bikes in their rooms - day 2 of a week long stag ride to Paris apparently

The bikes weren't clean either, it had been hissing down all day, admittedly not off road riders though

The CFH 'persona' does remind me somewhat of that recent Holiday Inn advert:

Ive always kept bikes in my room using Travelodge and never been pulled up on it. Maybe if I left the room with mud and oil everywhere it may have been different, but as im aware the only things not allowed in the rooms are Pets and Prostitutes

Travelodge aren't bothered at all about people taking bikes in the rooms. Or filthy, post-24 hour race bikes that mysteriously emerge from the room cleaner than they did when they went in...

they're not arsed about turbo trainers either 🙂

(talking specifically about Inverness, somewhere in Birmingham, Ilford and Reading Travelodges, btw)

Bikes in the shower! A student house classic method of cleaning the bikes!

Erm... I can confirm that a bike just about fits in the combined bath/shower at my aforementioned PI. Even had its own towel......

Regularly stay in hotels, so bought a duff monster bag, and take my bike in the rom with me. Only have to take the front wheel off to fit it in the bag.
Never been told that I can't take it in the room, or asked what it is.

As an aside, look at Google Maps of Merthyr Tydfil, just to the SSW of the roundabout there the Travelodge is...

Tardis!

We got told off in the Travelodge at Cambridge, cos it was the new one at Orchard Park and they didn't want their new paint scratched! After pointing out to them that they had numerous signs in their car park telling us not to leave personal possessions in the car, they offered us the use of the laundry room to store them.
We had actually got them in unseen the first night, but got stopped as we were going out in the morning - doh!

If you really must shatter my image of you as an international jet-setting post-it-notes salesman that plays and stays in only the very best residences, then the Premier Inn is going to be much nicer than the Travelodge.

Use to work in a travel lodge back in my student days. You'd be horrified at some of the things people left behind or got up to in rooms. Bikes would be at the bottom of the list of things to be concerned about.

Less than a mile from Travel-Lodge Merthyr Tydfil to the BPW you can cycle along the Taff Trail from the Travel-Lodge, or drive to the venue on the A470.

Flashy - WTF is that about?

However, did you know.....GoogleMaps outside Earl's Court Underground station, clicking the double arrow pointing at the old-fashioned police box and take a peek inside the TARDIS'....

Tut tut...
Re read CFH's post people.
He is asking for somewhere safe near an MTBing venue to leave his clean bikes i.e. a Travelodge.
CFH himself will of course be staying in some local country manor house.

I have stayed in Merthyr travelodge as I have a client there, after the first visit I insisted they book me into the premier inn or at a hotel/B&B that was further up the valley near the reservoir.
I doubt they are bothered about bikes but I would put the frame and the wheels in separate bin liners and stroll through reception like a boss.

As per @kayak put the bike in a bag, duffbags are good and they keep the car clean too.

Its fine to leave bikes in any travelodge, they dont care. As for the hotel snobs here complaining about the place, get over yourselves 😆 its a £30 room for a night, what do you expect? About a 5 min drive from the bike park visitor centre, its ideal.

As it turned out, we left them in the car, no problems. Parked right outside reception, though. Family room slept three in comfort, very cheaply. Four would have been OK, as long as people are happy to share a double. Shower was perfectly fine, but no gel etc provided, so take your own. All in all, a good very cheap place to stay for Bike Park Wales. Nothing special, but damned cheap!

A nice stroll in to Merthyr for a Saturday night curry. Moksh, on the High St, very highly recommended. Great food, and good service. Several beers at the Wetherspoon's in the lower high st, all perfectly fine if nothing amazing. The real value of the night was the people watching, however.....Quite superb value!

Breakfast choices were limited on the "Leisure park", but Frankie & Bennies served up a £5 breakfast feast of pancakes, eggs and bacon and all the coffee we could drink. Much needed after the night before.

Oh, you want to know about BPW? OK, good fun. Lots of fun, actually.

Sixtapod, Wibbly Wobbly and Rim Dinger are probably my pick of the bunch. Crashed hard on first run of Willy Waver as friend in front lost it equally hard in to that tree. I reckon, looking at the way it's been beaten up, many people have hit it! Overall, a laugh, and a different scene from a DH only uplift day.

Food at the centre was OK. OK, the flapjack was EPIC, but the burger was just OK.

Nice day at Cwm Carn having a leisurely hangover ride of the Twrch today as well.
Happy weekend!

What about the fighting?

You can't go to Merthyr and not partake in the local sport.
It'd be like going to Spain and eating a full english. 🙂

We did partake in a brief snifter in two more of the finer establishments of the town. One called Walkthrough and one called The Vulcan.

Eye opening, it must be said...! 🙂

Eye [s]opening[/s] closing/blackening is quite an accurate description what can happen to both your eyes in some of the more "local" pubs. 😆

Last time I took my bike in a room at a Travelodge-I had to clean the bike before I could use it! Just like the bed and the bathroom.

Maybe only £30 but Premier on Hi-express for an extra £10 is much cleaner and the staff are on a different level of customer care.

Last time I was staying at a TravelLodge we weren't allowed to take
bikes in the room. This was some time ago, I was in Dumfries for an NPS.
We were told some idiot mountain biker had trashed their room the night before so that was that. Rob Warner, take a bow.

Just spent 2 days at Bike Park wales and the trails are great and if anybody would like somewhere to stay with secure bike storage I can recommend Gethin Lodge,
http://www.gethinlodge.com/
There is a Pentrebach house within 5 minutes walk for breakfast and an old style boozer along the road called The Colliers Arms

Oh and our group feel a little let down
Not one person in Merthyr wanted to pick a fight with us 8)
we found everybody really friendly

I hit what I presume is 'that tree' very hard a week ago, that'll be new forks and I am still limping...

We were chatting about that tree over dinner on Saturday, and speculating that many, many people had already hit it and many more would in the future. I suspect it may not last long as a tree where it is now....

Hope you get well soon!

We stayed there Sat night having ridden elsewhere before BPW on Sunday & no-one even batted an eyelid about us having bikes in the room.

It's always been a dump there, we used to use it when we raced & all that was there being the DH track.

Quite enjoyed it yesterday, have to say that most of the blues flow better than the reds at pace.

The DH track is certainly quicker, and shorter than it used to be. The jumps up the top are fun!
