A long shot but...
We've got a biking trip booked in the Slovenian alps this summer but fancy going down to Croatia for a week afterwards to relax. However having 2 big bike bags to drag about is a pain. Just wondered if anyone has left their bikes in some sort of secure luggage store at airports before (assuming that kind of thing exists), to pick up later and was it expensive?
Or... have you travelled round Croatia with bikes in the car and had any issues getting parked near enough to accomodation in the more 'historical' towns/resorts - where I assume space and car access could be somewhat limited? We obviously don't want to leave bikes in car all the time for security. Or do we just give in and hire bikes for the trip....
cheers
Bump...

I actually dragged my bike in a box from one of the islands to Dubrovnik to fly home and race SitS, and left it with a t-shirt company just outside the old town while I hunted for somewhere to kip overnight. I ended up buying them beer to say thanks and getting a little tipsy.
Anyway... I would say it depends where you go. If you're going to Dubrovnik old town, you'll probably be ditching the car a fair way from your lodgings. If you're staying outside one of the main towns, or in a little village, I imagine you'll be accommodated. Split is certainly more car-friendly than Dubrovnik - I assume you're sticking to the coast, rather than heading inland to Zagreb.
Personally I'd be looking to get somewhere quiet and away from the crowds a little, which means avoiding the northern coast near Italy. The islands are wonderful and easy to get to (I lived on Kor?ula) and pretty laid back. I found that there was petty theft so would definitely be careful, especially in a foreign/hire car. It could also be worth taking the bikes as there is some decent riding on marked footpaths.
Any ideas what you want to do, or where you're heading?

Hi, thanks for the info.
We would be doing all our biking in Slov. and tbh I think my legs will be needing a rest after that trip! so Croatia would be purely a tourist affair, hence the bikes are just a large thing to drag about and hide in hotel rooms each night.
Would probably head for Split and areas south of there- islands/ mainland for the main part, hoping to fly back straight from one of these towns if possible, would mean getting hire car in Croatia to avoid non-return charges, which then means getting train etc to Zagreb or similar?... will take a look at your piccies cheers
Ive done the Dubrovnik thing and there is no where in the airport to leave bike bags. Though I think the longstay car park guys would have taken a few bob to store them in their office/portcabin if we could have made ourselves understood. We ended up leaving them in the YHA Hostel where we start/ended out trip.
Loved it, jealous of you...
There will be some expert advice available shortly when the lads and ladesses return from the SSEC in Slovenia...
