My Tranzx/brandx wireless dropper has developed a fault. The battery connects to the seat post and the lights flash when pressing the remote, but it wong actuate - and you can't hear the audible noise the servo usually makes when used.
The last ride I went on was particularly wet and I noticed some signs of corrosion on the battery when removing it this morning. Any one had similar and got a fix?
Alternatively, as it was bought in the CRC blowout sale in march it's technically still in warranty, anyone know who, if anyone distributes Brandx now and if they will honour CRC bought components?
So warranty seems pretty impossible so I thought I'd take it apart and see what the issue is..
Turns out it's water ingress through the battery ports, which is what I thought, but some quite severe corrosion on the main circuit board.
Interesting to see how the dropper actuator works, a small servo spins a series of bearings, one of which is a cam and pushes on the pin inside the head of the dropper.
If you have a trans-x or brand-x wireless dropper it may be worth greasing the battery cover up to prevent additional water ingress.
Thanks for the tip. I also bought one of those from CRC but it is unlikely to come out of its box before spring. Doesn’t appear a great design for something right in the path of rear wheel spray if it lets water in
Yeah, the battery area is flat and enclosed and the sliding battery cover doesn't have very good sealing, so if water gets it and under the battery it's toast.
No doubt, the warranty department will suggest you need to use a mudguard as a measure to avoid water ingress.
