You know how sometimes you get an itch that you just need to scratch?
Well, I'm feeling that I need to scratch the Transvésubienne itch.
After all how hard can 2900m of ascent, and 3600m of descent be over 84km?
I know there's an old thread on here, but is there anybody who has done it more recently, and wants to share any advise/tips/warnings?
Or just tell me that I'm stupid and should just book a holiday somewhere dusty with a chairlift?
I did it in 2012.
It remains the hardest race I have ever done. It was the week after the 24hr World Champs in Finals though so that didn't help!
It's on my birthday this year and I'm really tempted to go back.
It is properly hard but definitely worth it! The descents are all terrifying and the climbs are harder!
Terrifying sounds good!
Hardest race ever not so.
I know it'll involve lots of training, but I'm struggling to gauge just how fit I'd need to be to complete it. Especially since my cycling fitness is currently pretty rubbish having spent more time digging than riding for the past 6 months.
I'm thinking that if I can get back to doing 1500m+ days over the next few months, with the aim of 2000+ by the middle of the year, combined with actually riding my road bike, that it shouldn't be too hard.
It took me 11hrs IIRC, don't be fooled by the 84km bit, it's harder than that implies. (But I was racing tired and set off in the final group, I'd be aiming to go well under 9hrs next time when not already knackered and knowing more what to expect)
Technical skill is very helpful, fitness less so, more willpower and determination.
Putting the mountains back into Mountain Biking! Awesome views, proper epic ride, and you get to see some great bits of the Alps. Do it!
