What are people doing?
Assuming the boot is full
Don't think the roof is an option and my car can't have a rear screen rack
Towbar it is then? Any recommendations
Why not roof ?
Actually, they are flipping heavy, so tow bar is probably best option.
I've got a Fazua motor, removing drivepack and on roof on a Thule fork mounted rack - that keeps it in the rack weight limit and the lift up isn't too bad at all.
Appreciate that isn't an option on every system though.
The roof is fine! (assuming you have a roof rack and bike carrier)
Mate of mine put his on the roof without the battery on it. Apparently that brings it below the 20kg limit that Thule put one there stuff.
Probably depends how high your car is though.
My Turbo Levi goes on a towball mounted rack. Weight is the main thing, but don’t discount wheelbase length.
Just ride it there 😉
Yakima one click 2 bike carrier on towbar works well for me. Takes minutes only to put on and off and very secure.
Mine goes in the boot
As that's not an option for you then id go with a towbar mount and a rack that is rated for your e bike's weight, last thing you want is the rack failing, your bike bouncing down the road and hitting someone's car (have seen this happen!) with towbar racks you can keep an eye on the bike and straps via the rear window and pull over if needed
Roof mounting an e bike is a pain, lifting 23kg+ above your head to mount on the roof without dropping it and damaging the roof is a challenge, even more once the ride is done and your knackered! plus you have the bonus of all the mud and crap falling on the car, lower mpg and not being able to see what going on with the bike as you drive and if you drive into a car park with a height restriction barrier and you forget the bike is on the roof (seen this happen too!) you damage the bike and the car
We have the Atera Strada Ebike ML for the OH's Levo and my long wheelbase Aeris - can't fault it really.
Buzzrack e-scorpion 2 is a great rack and good for long wheelbases (my 1269mm XXL 29er fits), will take 2x 30kg bikes.
Pendle towbar rack for the good car, in the boot minus front wheel for the old heap.
Always take battery off which ever , partly for weight, partly for reducing nickabilty
I’ve got the Thule folding towbar one. Fits an XL vitus e-sommet. Expensive but VERY good. Just been to the Alps and back with it.
+1 for removing the battery
Bike goes on a Thule tow bar mounted rack,
Several locks hold it on to the car as well as as the rack
Get a roof box, put bike in boot and all your other stuff in the roof box.
as above, remove battery, old school type Thule on towbar for me.
