You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've got a 2016 Transition Suppressor. It is designed for 26 in wheels, but plenty of Transition owners have run 27.5 in that frame, as the clearance is so good. I've decided to take the plunge, but as ever am on a budget.
So I've bought a new Fox 36 (think taken from a Santa Cruz ebike, but understand from limited research it is fine to run an ebike specific fork on a regular frame) and my intention now is to get some 27.5 wheels.
My requirements are quite specific, so off the shelf wheels sets seem to be out. I need the following:
27.5
110 boost front
12x142 rear, with XD driver
6 bolt
I've looked online, on ebay and the other option is to buy 1 1/2 wheelsets, or try and get two wheels. I saw a nice set of crank bros Cobalt on ebay, but rear has got a dent in the rim.
I found these wheels online that have DT Swiss 270 Hubs, Sun Ringle rims and are build by Fit Wheels.
Any thoughts or suggestions for alternatives?
Hunt will allow you to order a wheelset in mixed boost an non boost, you can specify in comments during checkout.
Or lots of places will build you a wheelset and you can just pick the hub size to suit, your choice of DT Rims on DT or Hope hubs will give you a ncie wheelset - actionsports.de do builds at good prices.
And as another option I understand some Spank wheels can be fitted with a Boost front adapter, which would work for me.
Can't find which models do that though, possibly the Hex.
Or you could get a set of non boost wheels and use an adapter on the front?
Or keep your eye out for ones from an early Jeffsy - IIRC they were boost front, 142 rear. Often e13 or dt m1700/1900. I'm not sure if they dropped this arrangement when they released the 27.5 though?
Thanks Georg. I'll look Action Sports up.
I also forgot about Hunt.
It's often cheaper to buy separate wheels used, as fewer people are after a single.
Thanks submarined. I have sort of tentatively looked at that as an option, but can't figure out the options for boost adaptors.
You can get a generic boost adaptor, which is basically just two 3mm washers that go either side of your wheel, and a spacer and longer bolts to space over your rotor. Will fit any wheel, but the wee washers will fall off every time you take your wheel off.
Most bigger brands (Hope, DT, etc) have specific end cap/spacer kits that you can use to convert also - some of these (Hope for example) need the wheel redished - loosening spokes on one side and tightening on the other to shift the wheel back to a central position - that's a quick job for any decent bike shop
Thanks All. I am still doing online research on the above; I've just been busy with work and life to get it sorted yet.
Thanks for the suggestions above.
my spank 350 none boost wheels came with boost adaptors
