Hello all,

I'm so very nearly ordering a 2016 Smuggler.

I was wondering if anyone uses a Hans Dampf 2.35 on the rear?

do you mean with regard the vertical clearance to the seatstay bridge? They are aware of it so it might have been fixed for next year. No idea though, my Vigilante rubbed a little when new, but it is a very tall tyre. Tons of clearance to the side though.

Wasn't aware there was a known issue.

The builds on the website have 2.25 Nobby Nics out back.

Just wanted to make sure a 2.35 Hans Dampf would be ok.

I think it would be very tight on the current ones but the 2016 model has been tweaked to sort this so should be fine.

Hans dampf is a no go in the rear if it's still the same as the 2015 , I ended up with a WTB Trail Boss 2.4 .

As above more clearance for 2016, so should be fine.

I am also running a Trailboss 2.4, great tyre so far. Someone still needs to buy our last large Teal though to make room for the new ones 😀

Where are details of these 2016 Transition Bikes that you all speak of?

There aren't any details. 😀

Given people complained about the clearance I WOULD GUESS they have modified it. Transition listen to the people.

They don't listen to me telling them to make a carbon one though. 5.5lb Smuggler frame, 26lb full build yes please.

For what its worth, I have a 2.3 HR 2 in the rear of my Scout. Its snug but its fine. I will get something a little skinnier in their when the mud season returns though.
To be honest I don't think the Pikes up front could cope with anything much bigger than the same. My previous forks were Fox 36's though so maybe I have been spoilt for room in the past.

Dealers have some information on the 2016 range. Some we can talk about, some we can't, yet. What we can say is that the Smuggler has more tyre clearance at the rear, and both Smuggler and Scout have a slightly raised BB for pedal-strike avoidance and an updated shock tune.

First drop is coming in September, and we're taking pre-orders (as I'm sure pigyn will be too. And someone definitely does need to buy that Smuggler - they're amazing).

There's some other stuff we can't talk about just yet, but let's just say that some of the rumours you might be hearing may just be true...

Hmm, the BB height on the 2015 Scout is low but I love it. It took a few weeks to recognise that it needed to be managed (foot caught between tree root and pedal in aggressive climb, forces nuts into cross bar incident) but it just requires a little more attention on pedal position. Small pay off for super stable fun.

That's a relief about the clearance update.

I was told Orange will be an option! 🙂

Oh, & carbon too, maybe.....

Surprised they've raised the BB, the low BB is part of what makes it what it is really. I noticed Fox shocks creeping into the pics on their site.

I've just stuck LB rims (30mm internal) on mine, and running a 2.25 Ardent on the back there is plenty of room laterally, but its only just ok radially for clearance. Most of my riding is rocky terrain, with very little sticky mud, so I'm ok with it. Can't post a pic up now, but if someone is uber-keen to see the actual clearance I could probably email a pic.

Just managed to weigh it for the first time too, as a friend has a set of good bike scales, and it comes in just a shade under 30lbs (it's the one pictured over in the other Smuggler thread on here). If they bring out a carbon one in a few years that would possibly cause marital stress 🙂
