Hi. I'll be changing my bike by the end of the year and I'm one of the rare riders thinking of going back to 650b from having a 29er for over two years.Feel it will suit my riding more and better through the tight stuff.
I'm very interested in the Patrol and I'll be booking a demo at the Ardrock. Its bloody impossible to find a demo anywhere else in the North West.
I'm 5ft 9 1/2 with a 33 inseam (long legs, short body) and I'm thinking the Medium will suit. My only issue is the seattube length being 400mm. Its nearly 6cm shorter than on the large Mega 290 I ride now. The seatpost will look ridiculous.
Anybody else my sort of height? Any issues with the seatpost being stuck out so much? The large Patrol is far too big for me.
Show me a Photo of your Patrol too. 😉
I didn’t end up buying the patrol but demoed it a couple times. I’m 5,8” and the medium felt way too small. I’m slightly longer in torso than leg. The large felt perfect.
Great bike I just preferred something else!
Sort of helpful sort of not!
swapped out a small suppressor frame for a medium patrol which is similar to the current new small.
It was my bro in laws bike (pic) but I've swapped my DBIL coil and mattoc over to replace the monarch plus and pike. plenty of long droppers now so shouldn't be an issue to fit one of those.

I’m 5’ 9” 32” inseam and rode a large Patrol (RIP). Tried a medium and it felt small. Would defo try and sling a leg over one.
Not sure where you are exactly but Wheelbase usually have a few in stock and will let you have a quick ride on them.

“The seatpost will look ridiculous.”
Will it really? Or will you just have more room to move and space for a really long dropper post?
But why do you think the large Patrol will be much too big for you? It’s the same size as your large Mega 290!
5'10" and on a large. Tried medium and was great fun for chucking around but too cramped for long rides. Stuck a 35mm stem on too.
Another 5’9.5” here and on a large, works a treat in all the riding it gets put to, Enduros, most English DH (as opposed to Scottish and Welsh which needs a full DH bike) and fun rides that includes a fair amount of gravity stuff.
I'm 5'4" on a medium, you'll be wanting a large frame 🙂
Not much help but 6’3” on a XL
tried to post image, failed 🤷🏻♂️
Get one, they are awesome bikes, I'm on a large, I'm 5 11.
As our Instagram discussion (Glenn C) I'm 5' 8" 30" leg and medium with a 35mm stem is fine - even takes a 170mm dropper!
Having said that my mate's large felt ok too 🙂
Mate is 5.8 and on a medium, he prefers tech to fast flow and says medium is much better, he rode my large nomad (which is a small large if you get my meaning) and it was too big.
At your height I reckon you need to ride one to be sure...
Just get a mega 275.
I’m a tiny shade over 6’. Been riding a 2016 large for 3 years. It’s never felt too small or short - but I am long in the legs with a proportionately shorter torso but also with monkey arms.
Cheers for all the input.
My 290 geo is Reach 460, TT 621 and wheelbase of 1224.
I don't really want to go any bigger than that. The reason I'm contemplating going back to 650b is to have something more manoeuverable and lively in the tight stuff.
Think its gonna have be decided by a demo.
I’ve got a large Carbon Patrol frame for sale if anyone’s after one.
I’m after a large carbon patrol actually.
I'm 5'10" and ride a previous generation Patrol in large, had a previous generation Smuggler in large and have spent a couple of days riding a current Smuggler in large too. They fit just right - I'd not want the smaller one.
I have long legs and like a high seat and I'd not say it looks too odd with the dropper at full extension (this is a 125mm one lowered).
(Warning - bike in Scottish river content...)

I have shorter legs than you but 6ft I ride a 2017 XL Smuggler with 170mm dropper no issues I could ride a large but prefer the longer reach having a long torso
