Anyone else around 5'8" to 5'9" go for the large size frame?
I am just a hair over 5'9" and I'm on a large. It feels spot on.
I'm 5 9 and about to take on a medium scout. Reach is quite long on transitions, so unless you've got long arms or body I'd be looking at a medium personally.
Depends on personal preference though as always.
Great! Thought i was going mad as reach on M looks bit short despite what the size chart says.
[edit] TT is shorter than my M Spicy and reach is similar. I'm after something a bit longer. I am going to try a L this weekend.
I am 5 8 and wouldn't have wanted my medium Patrol any longer
5'10" here on a medium, fits like a glove! er... good fitting bike! Large felt way to big for me.
Cheers guys.. I suspect i'll be ordering a M then after I've taken a large for a spin!
I'm buying the scout off pigyn. Coming off an m banshee prime which feels very long, and despite not being able to demo there's no way a large would be for me. Definitely try both if you can.
I've a hair over 6' and a large is perfect for me - although I'm a shorter body and longer legs type.
This sounds like good news, 175cm in new money (short legs and arms) and getting a medium Patrol carbon very shortly, having been unable to get a leg over one I went with what I read online as them coming up slightly longer than the norm.
Recently had the same dilemma with my carbon Patrol.
I'm 5' 9" 32" inseam and went for a large. Feels very similar to my old medium Spitfire.
Had a medium scout for the last 2 years. I'm 5'10" and have always felt it a bit small, now swapping the frame out for a large patrol.
I'm 5'8 on a medium and I wouldn't have wanted it any bigger if I'm honest. The reach wasn't the issue for me, my inside leg is 30" and I have my 125mm reverb in the seat tube as far as it'll go.
38mm difference in seat tube length between the medium and large.
I run a 150mm Reverb with around 25mm of post showing below the Reverb collar, as I said before with a 32" inseam.
178cm here an on a large Scout, wouldn't want it shorter, but that's personal eh.
When looking at the tope tubes don't forget the steep seat angle on the Patrol and Scout. The TT may appear shorter on the chart than it feels when you're standing and riding.
Just measured the crank centre to reverb collar on my current bike. I'll either have 18mm or 56mm showing on a L or M Patrol respectively.
The wheelbase is longer, 30mm or 60mm compared to my Spicy. But the Reach is only 4mm or 29mm longer. I would like to try a longer reach.
Anyway, roll on Saturday when i can try a L out for size.
at 5'10" the stock 125mm dropper wouldn't extend high enough for me on my M, had to get a 150mm, no bad thing in the long run as I now get more drop but was painful having to shell out for a new post right after purchase. the seat tube is definitely a little short.
😆
Where's this new breed of mtber come from that buys bikes that're anything other than the correct size?
Not that long ago, they were all buying bikes that were too small for them for "chuckability."
Now they've gone the other way and are buying bikes that're too big!
A Large frame for someone who's 5'8"? Eh?
5-10 on a large with 50mm stem and a 150mm reverb.
If you replace the conectamajig on the reverb with a barb you can slam an extra 15mm into the frame.
5'8" here and previously rode a medium smuggler, would like to try a large. Currently ride a medium airdrop edit which is similar in size to a large patrol and it feels great. Most bikes of "medium" size that I now ride feel too small, but that's just my personal preference.
Tried a large today thanks to BPW. I liked it and have ordered one!
^^nice
bikes nice but your garden is a state
Missed this when it first came up, but just to help confirm your new purchase, I am 5'8" and have a large Patrol, absolutely spot on for me, I have quite long arms, fingertip to fingertip is greater than my height and short legs, so run a 100mm reverb.
I never got a go on one before ordering, but tried M Scout and XL Supressor.
Of all the bikes I tried, the only comfortable medium was a Mondraker.
Thanks everyone and merry xmas to me! I can't wait to hit the steep stuff on it 🙂
Looking good!
Those of you around 5'9" with 31" instep who went for a large can you get a 150mm dropper in? Cheers.
I've got a150mm reverb in mine. 5'10ish, about 31 inch trouser, monkey arms, large frame.
As above I'm 5' 9" with a 32" inseam running a 150mm Reverb. Have about an inch to spare. You do have to make sure the top rocker pivot axle has the notch aligned to allow the connectamajig to pass it (number 24 on this diagram http://www.transitionbikes.com/PDF/2017FrameExplode_PatrolCarbon.pdf ).
That's a large frame btw.
Nice, have you guys got around 30-40mm spacers under 20mm riser bars?
I'll be using my hope brakes too.
My frame is stuck in a box in the spare room! Family day!
Great, thanks guys.
just to add for the smaller people, I'm 5'6.5" and ride a small suppressor with a 35mm stem. the ETT is a tad short but reach is perfect. My bro in laws medium patrol feels too big with a 55mm stem. run a 125mm reverb but the rocker pivot stops it going down any further or I'd run a 150mm.
Just to follow-up on the bar spacer question.
Bluearsefly, you look like you have 3 x 5mm spacers under your bars? Would you go lower??
I only ask as my fork steerer limits my bar height (10mm and I've gone for a wider bar bringing my weight forwards) and i could counter by exchanging my 20mm riser for 30mm.
Just had to look at another picture on my phone but it looks like I've got 20mm worth of spacers.
I could probably get away with going lower, I just started with 20mm and it seems fine tbh. It's never something I've ever felt the need to play with on my Patrol, my Spitfire took a few goes to get the balance right.
Sorry I couldn't be of any help!
No worries, cheers for getting back to me.
Just to close this out. I've been riding my large Patrol for a few weeks now and am very happy with it. Need to shift my weight foeward a bit more round corners but so confident now descending.
