You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I’m going to be building my Scout over the next week or two. As a few on here have recently posted their new Scout's and having never had a bike with internal cables, I wondered how people had got around rattling?
Was thinking of using some foam tape or maybe self amalgamating at intervals along the run.
On my Smuggler I found that just pulling 'em tight and then securing tightly with cable ties on the points designed for just that got rid of rattle
Same - I don't have any rattle as my cables are fairly taught.
I was told that if it became a problem, use self amalgamating tape where the cables / hoses enter the frame.
I have had my Scout a year now and have not felt the need to be honest. It is nowhere near as noisy or irritating as the drivetrains, pre clutch mech's etc, were.
Not a problem on my Smuggler. But then I came from a Five and the noise never bothered me on that either.
Well that's all good news, I've read quite a few people saying it was pretty bad. Plus the demo bike I rode was rattly.
I put few cable ties on my reverb hose in a Tranny - have them stickign out in variopus directions so they effectively hold the hose/cable outer away from the frame. They have a bit of give but also stay in constant contact with the frame so no rattles.
a neoprene tube of the right internal diameter will also work - slip over the cable outer where it'll be inside the frame.
Had no issues on my Patrol - not done anything special
I think pedals in Edinburgh build up their transitions with this tiny foam pipe lagging stuff, doesn't weigh a thing and does the job. I didn't think that far ahead ahead but shoved half a dishwashing sponge down the downtube after building and that has stopped the rattling.
No matter how tight I pulled cable ties they always came loose after a rock garden or a few drops and jumps.

And after emailing them this is what they came back with as an option:
Hey Darren-
The trick is to use some flexible heat shrink tubing when you are building the bike so that it covers the hoses and cable housings several inches inside and outside of the frame. You will also want to zip tie the hoses and cables together tightly right where they enter the frame.
Giddyup!

I've just taken ownership of a build from Pedals in Edinburgh - it's been perfect out the box and so quiet it was deafening!
I'm sure they wouldn't mind pointing you in the direction of the lagging stuff they use, they're good guys.
Rubber o-rings at intervals along cables helps or rubber vacuum hose
I've got a scout coming at the weekend, can anyone post a link to a product that will quieten cables down?
Waiting on my scout frame also.
This looks like it will do the trick maybe?

That's the kind of stuff we use at pedals. The issue with shrink wrapping your cables, together or otherwise, is that it's going to be a real pain when you have to change. With this you can swap cables very quickly.
