Hello,
I'm doing the Craft TransAlp in a few weeks...and need some advice on tubeless tyres.
Obv, the ideal tyres would be low rolling resistance yet super tough.
I'm pretty light (70kg) and the bike is a 29-er hardtail.
Any advice gratefully received!!!
Thanks folks.

Maxxis EXOs, Crossmark or Ardent Race maybe. EXOs are great if you want tough tubeless tyres for anywhere rocky.

I've got a pretty similar problem as also doing a very climby alpine stage race.

Was going to go for Maxxis Ikons with EXO protection, but there doesn't appear to be any stock around thanks to a distributor dispute.

Currently trying to find some suitable snakeskin Racing Ralphs although they also seem to be in short supply in the right variety.

I did it twice years ago, before tubeless was envogue
Whatever you get err on the tough side, and make sure you check them carefully at the end of the day.
I tried racing ralphs one year and they lasted 2 days, it was a rocky year ( routes change ) and I am bigger than you. I went tough inc thick side walls after that..
There are a few companies selling tyres cheaply at the event when I did it.
In fact they just change em for you while you have a drink .
Enjoy you will have a fantastic time – very jealous..

I'd avoid ralphs for longer days, very fragile in my experience.

Geax Saguaros if you can find any. Not sure if Vittoria have done them under a new name?

Maybe Hutchinson Pythons are worth a look too, used to like those in 26 guise.

I ripped a huge tear in a tyre on a similar week long race.
Was saved by a dodgy tyre I was given at a feed station.
The lightest tyre you have carried as a spare between you, would be a thought, especially if you are running light / thin tyres.
But then I am 20% heavier than you..

Ardent race is my favoutite on the XC bike, enough that I can get stuck in a bit but still fast rolling.

What size? Probikeshop are listing loads, apparently in stock: http://www.probikeshop.com/en/gb/search/ikon.html?search=ikon#t=55&typeSearch=4&manId=21&page=1&search=ikon

Good link stevied - doesn't look like they have the 29er Ikons in EXO Tubeless Ready though - either EXO or TR but not both, unless I'm missing something 🙁

EDIT - my mistake, they have them in 2.35 - was hoping for 2.2 though.

Ikon probably isn't noticably slower as you go fatter- it might even be like a smallblock and get faster. Though I don't know if I'd want to bet on that, for an event like this...

Geax AKA seemed to get better write-ups than sb8 and Ikons when I was looking for tyres.

See if you can get Specialized Fast Trak Grids (there is a UST version too), they are US only but you may find a shop that'll ship them. I think they come in 2.0 and 2.2
