Anyone done the route, what are the climbs like, can you get away with using a fast road hybrid bike ?

Totally flat to Manchester, a bit bumpy in places, and lots of restrictors, if you have wide bars or panniers,oh theres a large set of steps (about 30) at Widnes near the new Tesco depot.

I take it by restrictors you mean path barriers etc What about over the top at Woodhead the climb.

I am guessing a road hybrid with nice fat low pressure tyres will be fine then.

the bit over woodhead is a bit steep/loose in places but nothing severe - you could easily push them. otherwise a road hybrid ideal. pretty much flat from donny to hornsea too
