Dear forumites, I was planning on doing the last two days of the Trans Camb trail in reverse order and then picking up the NCN8 to take me down to Brecon on the third day. I bought a bike frame and it is in Brecon and I need to pick it up so amending the plan for next weekend will, I hope, make this possible.

I am looking for help and advice though, any comments about the route are welcome as are any offers of a lift for myself, my wife, our tandem and the bike frame I am hoping to pick up. We heading to the southern mainline route into london.

Struggling to make sense of your request here 🙂

Are you saying you want a lift from Brecon to Cardiff or Newport next Sunday with a tandem?

If you have enough time the train from Merthyr is an option. Or divert to Abergavenny or Hereford for the train.

oops yeah sorry.

OK, the request is in two parts: your thoughts on doing the trans cambrian way 'backwards' particularly the section between Mach and Rhayader; and: is anyone able to shuttle a tandem and two people from Brecon down to one of the major stations that go to london? like bridgend or cardiff etc.

i really appreciate you replying and persisting in trying to get sense out of me!

The climb up foel fadian will be harder in that direction, might be worth looking for an alternative route in that section.

If you can't find anyone to give you a lift from Brecon, you could just ride along the canal to Newport. It'll be a relatively easy run after what you've done by then.

I'd offer but I can't transport a tandem. But I suggest looking at getting to Merthyr via Taff trail. Should be able to get a tandem on those trains I reckon.

Re doing the route backwards, that's the only way I've done it. It was a bike ride, there were trails 🙂
