Hi all, I need to get a headset for a 2010 Giant Trance X frame but I'm not sure what I need.

Giant site says 1 1/8 integrated and cane creek says 1 1/8 zero stack

Any idea exactly what I need anyone?

Thanks

What a shame..
You need to find out the insertion depth of your new one first.Just had a quick measure from the outside and it looks to be 7-8mm.
Let me know if you find a good quality one Mosey. 😉

I nearly bought that one too.

Mines a 2010 frame and I thought it came with a headset fitted but nope.

Every site/forum seems to have a different answer.

yup. though measure how much space you have in the lower part of the head tube. hopes max insertion is 9.3mm i belive. I think I had to mechine a smidge off the hope cup on the lathe

One last question why is the pick n mix option cheaper than the standard headset?

because there are so many standards out there now. it would be a nightmare for hope to ship every combination. so they sell the tops and lowers seperate.

Ah it's just the same 2 cups I need are £72 as a whole or £58 as a pick n mix.

Wondered if something wasn't included.

Just to throw a spanner in the works. In the bike stand i have a pace rc305 with the forks off and hope type 2 headset cups fitted.Just took the top bearing out and can,t see how you can lathe down the cup as the bearing sits right against the bottom of it.The insertion depth is bang on 10mm as well...
If i remember right i did look into fitting one of these in the trance but gave up..

I'm not sure what you mean? Are you saying that a hope top cup 2 and bottom cup b won't fit?

I can,t see any way of reducing the depth of it as in the pic can you see the inside lip of about 1.5mm..If you take that off it,s still not enough and you would take the seat off where the bearing sits and it would be knackered...
Bit weird that iv,e got that sitting in the stand as well...
The Trance x one really is very narrow..

An so the cup is too long and would need reducing?

On the hope site it says the top cup is 9mm isn't that just about right for the trance?

Hang on more measuring on the trance... 😉
Right if you measure from the bottom or top of the head tube you've got exactly 7.5 mm of flat tube before the diameter reduces..(steel engineering ruler).

Cheers for all the help guys. I'm pretty pissed off the frame didn't come with one fitted as the frame sets usually do.

JE James were selling Giant branded headsets for overdrive head tube a couple of weeks back for twelve quid with a discount code. Use the search box, I put a PSA on here about it.
