Training interrupted, when to ramp back up?

I'd been doing well since late Feb managing a solid 6+ hours a week between turbo sessions and riding getting some consistency back into things, and the hope had been to do a wee bit more this week as I'm off work with the kids for half-term.

Unfortunately missus perma-cold finally got me on Monday night and so I have sort of halted my training plan for the last few days. I'm heavily dosed on Lemslip and still a snotty mess, but I've been getting out for walks etc, I'm functional but I've not raised my HR for 5 days.

The muscle aches are subsiding and I'm less snotty today (not fully back to normal yet) is it a good idea to chance a steady hour or so on the turbo (base or tempo type session) or should I hold off?

Next week is going to be a busy one and I don't want things to slip for a full fortnight if I can help it.

Advice and suggestions please...

Go for it, take it easy and see how you respond before pressing on with intensity?

What's your resting heart rate done? Any fever?

If it's just a minor head cold with no fever, no big hit on RHR then gently does it.  If either of the above, rest it is

RHR is 43 currently. I didn't have a fever, just general aches and 'ungghh' feeling.

I'll give an hour a go tonight.

When you feel ready wait 48hours.

You'll not lose much in the extra time. You'll lose a lot if you ramp it back up too early and get ill again.

I took that advice in the end, held off until yesterday when I went for a 20 mile spin (ended up as 30) with a mate. Was worth waiting I think. I felt fine after the ride, but was tired and crashed on the sofa.

Just mulling a 1hour sunset spin on my MTB, so I don't have to think about going back to work tomorrow...

It's only a week or so, you'll not lose much fitness, but getting rid of the lurgy is more important.

I'm coming upto four months of no cycling - just started walking and turbo training, after hopping around on crutches for three months. I am going to be very slow in the real world. Just waiting for my pelvis to heal.

Sounds about right.

Equally I find sometimes going out a bit over dressed and sweating it out helps if the cold drags on too long. Especially as after a while the feeling crap from not exercising starts to overtake the feeling crap from the cold.

I'm hoping I'm at that stage by now, was going to hit some hills this evening but still a tiny bit feverish. Will give it another 48 hours...
