Anyone done much riding in the Moorfoots? I was thinking of a ride starting at Gladhouse reservoir, south on a lrt into the hills and up onto the moorland. You're then close to the windmills and the forest trails that will take you to Dunslair radio mast. Go for a mince round GT then back.

Only concern is that it might be a wee bit boring - anyone done this and can recommend?

Guy on mlehworld works for that wind farm company and might be able to help you out. Try asking over there.

i'm on stw too, hello!

the only cycling i've done round there is on the windfarm, and the forest track back down to the farm and manor house at the bottom. i can't recommend that however as although there's a right to roam it's still an industrial site. health and safety blah etc... oh and liability for accidents n stuff.

...though i regularly see walkers up there, and there is a track that contours the fence line of the winfarm on the north side. that may or may not be passible on a bike, it probably is but i expect it'll be heavy going cos of the long grasses and heather.

watch out for the dear, there are hundreds up there!

if you find i decent route i'd be quite interested to hear how you got on.

Hi Bippa. I'll probably go for an explore tomorrow morning and see what the trails are like. I see that GT and the Tweed valley now has good google earth coverage - maybe this has been there for ages but it's the first time I've seen it. Quite cool looking at all the trails.

i'll have to have a look at that

i've been meaning to try and work out a route over to the mast at dunslair since i started work up on the hill, but unfortunately haven't managed it yet. i'm sure it's doable however!

went wandering from the mast over to them windfarms a few months ago, basically getting lost and trying to find routes. All i found was fireroad which in essence, any new routes should seem at the least semi exciting, but this was in fact quite tedious. Nothing much to see. Good area to prob trail build though, and if money was no object i would hope FC would do something for us round that way as well
