You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I’ve just started using a BOB Yak for various hauling bits and pieces. As I loaded it with shopping today I realised that while my bike tyres are tubeless (and I carry a repair kit and tube just in case) the trailer presumably isn’t.
How do other trailer users protect their trailer tyres from punctures and prepare themselves to fix them if they do happen? Is it as simple as making sure the tyre is in good nick and carrying a puncture kit and spare tube?
what wheel size is it? If 20” then Schwalbe do some virtually puncture proof tyres, Big Apple, combined with slime filled tubes it should help protect you. Hope this helps.
Thanks, will look into that option
I have used Bob's and Bob clones a fair bit and never puncture, the tyres are pretty hefty and they bounce over stuff rather than pinch flat. I just carry a spare tube for it.
Might be worth sacrificing an inner tube, to see if the "split tube" tubeless method will work on the trailer
I just carry a tube. Punctures are rare
I have a burley cargo, 2 wheels, so at least the load is spread. I keep the pressures high, tbh I m more worried about clearing the width restricting barriers on the bike paths, than punctures.
I used to haul my two children to the child mionders in a trailer, never had a puncture which was good as I didn't have a spare tube...............
I’d either try Gjetto tubeless (split tube) or just buy some Joe’s No Flats/Slime tubes (other brands may be available)
Just carry a spare tube and a puncture repair kit. Not rocket surgery
Have used a Bob trailer for years. Like 20 years. Not once had a puncture despite loading it up with loads of beers, wood, shopping.... Only changed the original tyre two years ago. Still in the original tube!
Marathon plus tyre. Replace when you can see the blue protection. That will likely be never for a trailer.
