Just seeing if anyone has any good recommendations for a guide round Moab?

Or any other tips from being out there.

Cheers

The trails I rode were well signposted, so if you research in advance then there's a very good chance you'l be able to follow them easily.  I only had a couple of days there, so I focused on the well known stuff, there may be off-piste or other trails not posted that are worth a guide.

I rented bikes from Poison Spider in Moab, they also do shuttles and guiding and service was excellent, so I'd start there (even their website says trail signage is excellent).

As above. It is pretty well signed. The riding is quite spread out so you may need to drive somewhere or get a shuttle. You can certainly do the classics without a guide. Maybe start there and have a chat in the bike shops later to see what else there is. We just did our own thing which was more than enough for the couple of days we had. We rented from Moab Cyclery who were great. Got a couple of full carbon Santa Cruz bikes, picked them up the evening before and at their suggestion sneaked in an extra evening/night ride. The high stuff was closed due to weather when we were there but the rest was great.

If you have time try and do some other stuff. The parks are fantastic, Arches gets busy but we went in late and it was pretty quiet (and beautiful) by sunset. If you flying in to Denver there is some cool stuff on the way if you want to break the trip up.

+1 for poison spider bikes. They swapped the brakes around for us no problem. Albeit about 16 years ago, so things might have changed.

As for a guide, just buy the standard MTB guide, think it might be Falcon

When you heading out - just clearing out my box of maps and have the big Moab Trail/Terain map (prob 2-3 years old) you can have if you want. All the classic areas are marked up. It's even on waterproof paper!!!! Let us know and I can post it (assuming UK).

TBH I never used it once on the trails - more for research when choosing what to ride and where.

Not much to add other than another +1 for Poison Spider.
I booked with Porcupine Shuttle for a lift to the trailhead. I asked them for trail recommendations based on the type of riding I like, and they were pretty much spot on. If I ever go back, I’d be riding The Whole Enchilada.

If you can ,really do try and ride the Whole Enchilada.

And if you can coincide your visit with an Outerbike festival, you might want to look into that.

Used Moab Cyclery for shuttles (The Whole Enchilada) the couple times I have visited Moab - just because they were closest to the hotel. Simple, efficient service and made friends with some USAF medics in the van - which I thought might be handy as I was riding TWE solo (GF went horse riding)!

We have done about 10 days riding in all during visits but have only ridden the main trail systems but never needed a guide on these.

Other option for shuttles, especially if you're just doing one long trail in a day, is to drive you and your bikes up there in the hire car, and one of you hop in a taxi when you're down to pick up the car.

Don't forget the key!

When you thinking of going? Its is often too hot for riding in the middle of the day in the summer (my friends helmet melted in the car).
First time I went we went out at first light and then again in the evening until it got dark. Which gives you time in the day to do Arches park.

mountain-biking-moab-pocket-guide falcon press has all the trails and it fits in your pack.

I’ve been a couple of times at the beginning of October which was ok temp wise, still hot obviously but not unbearable

But when are you going? Are you already in America? You have seen the news right

We were there late October and the upper runs were shut due to snow.

I was over there a couple of years go, late October, and it was only the very top of the whole Enchilada that was shut, mostly it was dry warm and sunny, cold (ish) at night. Didn't need a guide, the trails were easily found (well the famous ones are at leas)t. Navajo Rocks is worth a drive out to the start, and if you get bored of riding (as if) the rock gliphs are amazing One word of caution though. Never go full enduro...

I've ridden there twice, both times late Oct and it was still really warm, SS top and shorts weather.

Trails were easy to find...

The Whole Enchilada is incredible. Easily the best trail I’ve ever ridden, and I didn’t manage to get up to the very top due to the road being impassable. Slickrock is good too - just ride it in any direction, then reverse it on your return to the car park.

I stayed at the Lazy Lizard, which was ideal for a cheap place to stay, and I was there at the end of September. There’s a really good trail that runs parallel to the road into town which is worth a shot too if you’re just cruising around.
