Took a spin out to my local trail centre today. Normally fairly quiet on a weekday but still a few folk milling around. Half way round I come across a chap in the stopped in the middle of the trail, just around a downhill corner! Hanker on the brakes and ask him if he's ok? Does he need any help, tools, etc? "No, just checking the phone!"
No harm done, but could have been nasty
Carried on and got to the final descent, half way round and there is another bike across the trail! Same chap! This time he's stopped to fly his ruddy drone! Why do it there? Why not carry on down to the cafe / visitor centre and send the drone up from there?
I'm not shocked by this but a bit bemused as to why folk think it's ok to stop mid trail, just get off the bike, drop it where it lands and do something that could be done from the safety (theirs and mine) of a nice warm cafe?
Is this normal behaviour at trail centres (his, not mine!)?
Probably thought it was nice and quiet mid week 😉
Are you mad because he’s obviously way faster than you, and beat you to the final descent even though you had passed him half way round?
and he even has the extra time to keep stopping to check his phone ?
Was he on an e-bike as well?
Not mad with anyone - just think it's a strange thing to do?
I always pack a machete and a mini shovel in the camel back for this very scenario.
I'll remember that for next time
I just clip their bike on the way past. They soon twig.
The dick heads I have had the pleasure of meeting on the trail at a purpose built FC trail centre in the last few weeks, chap riding his bike with two dogs off the lead, chap walking on the trail on a blind full tilt corner, chap in running gear running the wrong way round the trail, can't fathom it personally. Oh and the cherry on the cake I got overtaken by a lardarse on his e-bike on one of the uphill sections
I like the fact that ebikes have given new legs to all the old topics from 15 years ago, it’s like a breath of fresh air mixed with the smell of nostalgia
I hope you told him he was a pillock... just so he knows, like.
I recently passed a pr1ck that put his bike upside down as if he was fixing it, sideways across the middle one of three consecutive tabletop jumps. He was sat there smoking a joint. I pedal all the way to the top to have the best bit of the trail ruined by an ar*e wipe. Makes my blood boil.....
Hence I hardly ride any trail centers...
Last time I was at one was probably 3 or 4 years ago...
Cheers!

Cos people got pissed off with you stopping on the trail?
I film the people I'm annoying with my drone
...and I bet none of them paid to park
OP, did you tell him it wasn't the best place to stop/leave your bike or did you get all English* on him and apologise for bothering him and then mumble and tut as you were riding off?
*i'm English so not being racist....
Fair enough when normal stupid punters do it, but when guides/instructors do it boils my p!ss.
What's that famous bearded chap that works near/in hebden bridge? Huge bushy beard.
He had a group blocking the trail at Lee Quarry. Flumoxed me completely.

Drone flying and phone checking is passé at Cannock. In the last few weeks we've had
* horses on the trail (trail horse anyone?)
* horses on the trail going the wrong way ('sorry our dog ran along here')
* mental uncontrolled dogs (see above)
* dog walkers obv
* runners
* families out for a stroll along this lovely woodland path
* people picking berries ffs
* random fc dudes
* skills courses
* photo opportunities
This is in addition to the normal stuff e.g. shrines, discarded medical equipment, mythological creatures, ebikes etc

Nice try mate 🙂
Cheers!

wasn't there a great clip sometime ago about an angry bloke in a yellow outfit being overtaken and not taking too kindly to it? This thread needs that.
Obviously he should've stopped off the trail, but flying his drone from half way round I assume got better views than straight from the cafe, also probably fewer people to accidentally land on.
And whilst checking of phones should be discouraged, if he was "working" from "home", fair enough.
