I've always wanted to film some of my riding but the gopro was always way out of my price range. Seems that there's cheaper good quality alternatives now so looking for some advice. Budget around £100 but may need to be flexible with that.

Something I can mount on my chest or helmet. Good quality but i'm not a pro so not top of the line. A cam I can set up on the trail and turn on remotely before i ride past (is this possible). I read somewhere you can get an iphone app or wrist watch for some cams to control it but not sure of the range? Maybe I could set a timer for this?

I've looked at reviews for Sj4000, go pro session 4, Elecam, Thieye T5e, Hillpow 4k.

Also what's the best framerate and quality setting for filming mtb rides as this may have a bearing on which cam I go for?

Thanks!

I have the GoPro with the remote control. I never use the remote control, I just set the camera in position, press record, ride back up the hill and ride down past again.

I've used the Sj4000. Its a great price, quality isn't as good as GoPro, but its good enough. If you're budget is £100 you're probably better off getting a cheaper camera and then mounts/tripods/straps etc with the extra cash. Plenty of good cheap bundles on mounts on eBay.

Regarding framerate, more isn't necessarily better, unless you want to slow the footage down. The standard is 25 or 30fps. However, you do see many people upload footage to Youtube at 60fps without slowing it down. Personally I don't like the way this looks, and it also means you need more light to get a decent picture.

Thanks folks. Does anyone bother with 4K as some don't have that? I'm thinking I could get a go pro session (or alternative) for my helmet and another cam for mounting elsewhere.

I record in 4K with a gimbal - GoPro season battery doesn't last very long, about 70mins on 4K. I only record the DH sections though so it's enough.
