Through the last few weeks of the summer holidays, my 11 yo son has started going out to some woods with his mates, first few times he's really been out on his own for extended periods. He has started coming home every day with either cuts & bruises or a semi broken bike. Him and a group of mates have made a jump and spend hours there every day and really seem to be getting into it. For a bunch of boys who have so far sat on screens too much, it has made me very happy. He has a fairly cheap 24" bike at the moment and is now pushing for a better one, which I have agreed to. He is 4'9" & 11yo. I have found on FB marketplace a 2016 Ragley Mmmbop XS & RS Sektor to use as the base.

I'm trying to do it on a budget so now looking for all the parts to make it into a bike for him.

I think a lot of people on here have piles of parts that are no longer used and they may want to sell on. I have put together a classisied of the parts I am after (Title: WANTED: Parts for 27.5 Bike Build.), but also thought I 'd start a thread as 1. Kids being kids was really nice to see & 2. Not sure if everyone looks at classifieds.

Hope a post like this is ok here.

Have a stem and bars you may be interested in. Probably have 35mm clamp or 31.9mm clamp.

35mm size - RaceFace bars + stem is something like a Burgtec 35mm length one. I will be at home later to check for certain 😛

Also 27.5 Crossmax wheels. Should be strong enough for an 11 yo. But you may be looking for something more er, jumpy.

(replied here cos you can't tell what you've ben offered in the classified ad.... only gives the option to message you!)

Say here if interest or not and I'll check em all in a few hours. Probably £150 the lot (+postage) if that sounds ok.

Dunno about tyres, will check!

Always good to hear about kids messing around in the woods on bikes.

What are you doing for brakes? Sport and Leisure have the Shimano MT401 hydro brake set for £69.99 at the moment.

Might be much cheaper to pick up a complete XS 26in hardtail?

My 12-year-old lad is currently riding his mum's old Specialized Myka, which is probably worth about £200.

Thanks very much. I think I'm sorted for bars and stem, but will get back to you on wheels, thanks!

Thanks, but think I have some brakes in garage I can make use of.

I think it may well be a bit cheaper to pick us a S/H full bike, but have already gone ahead with frame & quite looking forward to building something up for him. And can make it what he wants as well.

Would 140 mm yari be too big? i have a 27.5 non boost set sat on the shelf that I'd let for for not much for a good cause. Maybe 100 quid? Def got various tires albeit they would need a clean! Whereabouts in the world are you?

Also if you don't go second hand drivetrain. the Microshift stuff is really good and great value.

Thanks but the frame has a hollowtech BB in already, so am going to look for a crank to fit that first.

I've got - I think- a set of Shimano SLX cranks you could have for postage. They're well used (so some paint scuffs and the likes) but have a (very nearly new) one-up oval ring on them.

Edit to add - I expect they're 170mm. Can confirm everything when I'm home next.
