..... it rocks, had my 3rd session at the Manchester Velodrome tonight. Got into a nice paceline with 3 guys is never met before and it all went swimmingly. Takes some getting used to I can tell you.
Have you experienced the melted jersey wood friction burn yet ? It’s one you won’t forget ... 😀
Nope, and I hope I never do. Not planning on racing, just regular training
I ride Glasgow quite a lot. Just drop ins, no racing. A couple of years ago, on a chilled sat afternoon session, I was 3rd in a group that was passed by a group of 6. The back rider cut down a bit sharp and took out our front rider, we all went down. I woke up on a stretcher board, lots of exfoliation and a concussion....
Done the melted side of a Spesh Pro Carbon shoe and jersey before. Doing a 2 x 8 rider TTT, but the on the first bend someone on the other group crashed bringing half of them down. Our group went round the top of them and slowed quickly but I went too slow round the next bend and slid off. I was only just 1m up on the track fortunately.
When there is a big group, you've got to work out which ones can't ride. We had one lad whose wheels kept slipping on the banking as he couldn't ride it smoothly and lean into the bend. He fell off a few times !
Why don't track racers wear long tights and sleeves with kevlar fabric?
Anyway. Newport seems dreadfully organised compared to the others. I haven't been able to find a proper answer on how to get accredited.
Guidance for Manchester and Glasgow says wear 2 layers on top, a long base and a jersey. When I had my big fall I had 2 on, the outer melted and the inner one was only just through to the skin.
Probably cos even when it's cool and Team GB haven't been training before with the temperature turned right up it's still bloody warm

calshot is bloody freezing. winter gear required.
Mol to get accredited you need a few intro sessions, then tide some of the early drop ins at 7am. Then the coach will schedule the exam. Accreditation at Newport covers all the indoor velodromes. Except London who want you to do the test again.
My big crash of 2015 was 2 days before my test. I'm keen to get back if you fancy an early session. I even have a spare track bike! Reading is just not the same. And my accreditation there does not count indoors.
