that elimination Trott won was one of the best things in the olympics i thought.. the race before made no sense whatsoever though 😯
Cavendish really can't explain things haha.

Trott is flipping brilliant in the devil, she did the same thing at the Worlds earlier this year, very entertaining to watch. Every time they hit the home straight she looks like she's in trouble, then she whizzes past the opposition before they know what's hit 'em. That finishing sprint against Hammer was something else though. Ace. 😀

it seems to be her thing to do it mid-race. she did the very same at the World Cup test event earlier on in the year.

I'm amazed that people find the devil difficult to understand... person in last place gets eliminated every 3rd lap, until there are 3 riders left, then they sprint for the win to decide the podium places

as for the french accusing the british of 'magic wheels' that's kinda odd because for all of the homemade bike bits that UKSI have designed, the mavic disc and trispoke wheels are the only standard bits that everyone uses and they are made by a french company..

I should have put money on Kenny in 2009 bah...

I think smiff was talking about the points race.

Same wheels as used in Athens, apparently.

Got to agree. The 100m is always put forward as the great must watch event of the olympics but some of the cycling has been unmissable

Did they have [s]PowerBalance[/s] Bioflow in Athens? I thought not.

re 'magic wheels' I'm sure I saw some footage where the wheels were in a Planet X wheel bag with world champ rings on (the bag).

Maybe planet X sell these magic wheels?

points race isn't difficult either, 5,3,1 points for the sprint every 10th lap, and 10 points if you lap the bunch 🙂 the races do make more sense if you have seen them live I will say that, get tickets for the Revolution (winter racing at the velodrome in manchester) if you can

yeah the speed of the elimination, combined with drafting you get in cycling, and the odd person not understanding they're out, makes for gripping tv..

the points race though felt like

[img] [/img]

so all the track cycling was new to me ok, perhaps if you already understand it things are different.. i just think some of the cycling could be promoted and be made really popular - this one wasn't even on BBC1 ffs.

For someone describing how easy it is, you've got it all wrong!
5, 3, 2, 1 for the first 4 across the line every 10th lap
20 points if you lap the bunch

The points race is confusing on TV because you lose everyone's relative positions when they change camera, makes much more sense in the flesh. I'm still 😥 over the madison. Or rather the lack of.

But definitely agree that Trott's performance in the Devil was fantastic to watch! My second favourite event.

After the madison. 😥

Even in the flesh it's difficult unless you're carrying a pen and paper. Cav said this and went on to say that the best place to be is in the mix and racing.

Cav has actually turned into a really good pundit. I think he was nervous at first and didn't articulate clearly but now he's settled in he's done a fantastic job.

He's right - I'm not that bothered about watching points races but I love doing them. Really have to think on the move, know who's in the points, who to mark, where you have to come in the sprints. Brilliant fun to race them, potentially confusing to watch them and an absolute nightmare to judge/officiate them!

Totally agree, but I don't think he's quite managed to dumb it down enough yet.
Jake Humphrey: Can you explain the elimination, Mark?
Cav: It's an elimination... 😐

if it needs pen & paper, or is only fun for the those in it, or takes more than a couple of sentences to explain, it needs to go.. there's many good things you can do with that pringle, like pursuit and elimination and probably loads i've never heard of. not sure about omnium, it's like a heptathlon but all on same track so seems a bit silly. Cav was saying it's a kids thing? seems like a lot of work for 1 medal. my "omnium" would have like 1 track, 1 road, and 1 mtb? 🙂

1 track, 1 road, and 1 mtb

You missed BMX, although a lot of the track guys seem to race/have raced that anyway.

Except it's every other lap, and it goes on until there's two left who contest the final win.

Essentially - come second last every other lap and you'll win in the end.

If our track cycling team were to be a country, they'd be tenth on the medal table.

And they'd be called Awesome Britain.

In fact perhaps we could just rename the country that anyway if we finish in third, only beaten by the world's two superpowers.

Omnium races are often run in Youth track events as it gives the Youth riders a great chance to practice all the skills needed in both road and track riding - bunch racing, tactics, thinking on the fly, lone pursuit speed, sprinting, the whole works. It's essentially a measure of the "best all-round track rider" and for that reason, I like it.

How the general public understand it comes down to the commentators.

That elimination race was one of the most exciting things in the olympics. Laura Trott is a bit of a fresh faced assassin too.

Sandwich, if you mean she's hot to Trott then I'd have to agree.

An amazing rider and seems like a game girl too.

QUESTION: How come the team event bikes have 2 disc wheels, but the individual event bikes have a disc and an aerospoke?

Well somebody clearly knew which wheel to sit on in the Keirin - you wouldn't have thought it rocket science!

Anything that doesn't need a quick change of direction uses a 5 spoke front.

An amazing rider and seems like a game girl too.

A rare stomach condition, in which acid accumulates quickly during times of physical stress, means Trott is sick immediately after most of her major races.
She has also overcome persistent fainting fits which forced her to give up trampolining at the age of 11, just as she was about to break into Great Britain training squads. Time to find another outlet for all that energy and enthusiasm: track cycling.
This is also a girl who was born a month prematurely with a collapsed lung and spent the next six weeks fighting to survive. More than once the doctors warned mum and dad to expect the worst.

I presume spoilers are allowed on this thread (if not look away now)?

Good result in the pursuit - can't really expect to beat a multiple world champion. I presume Trott is expected to win (dominate?) the 500m TT, in which case she just has to finish ahead of Hammer in the scratch (whilst keeping half an eye on Whitten and Edmondson trying to get away in a break). Looking good for another gold if nothing goes too wrong.
