Getting a bit of a bug for the boards. At £6.20 a go for shoe hire its getting a bit much.

Just ordering a new pair of disco slippers for the road bike so i can demote the old ones to the track, and fit look keo cleats so theyre compatible with the derby arena hire bikes. Which cleats though? Always used shimano yellow, now i have the option of grey or black looks, 4.5 deg float or no float. Head says no float? Does feel like there is a bit of float with the hire shoes, but they have black cleats which i think are no float?

I suggest you use exactly the same shoes and cleats as you do on the road. If you need to compromise due different pedals on the hire bikes try and go as close to what works for you on road as you can get. That way the chance of aches and niggles are reduced.

The track session i did at Newport, you had to use their pedals, which were Look (or you could use trainers and straps with a cradle that clipped into the pedal) - no swapping allowed.

If the hire shoes use black cleats and you're OK with them, get them. I use Keo grey on my road bike anyway so just used them.

What did your hire shoes have? Did you like those and if so maybe get the same for now?

Personally on track I always used zero float, I loved the direct connection with control and speed, but guess it's like most things and everyone will have a slightly different opinion.
