Have a 29x2.6 on the front and recently put a 29x2.35 on the back. The Tubolito I carry is designed for 2.5-3.0 tyres. While I know I won't die (probably) if I put this in the rear, it's not ideal. And TPU tubes aren't great at not ideal.
Who is making TPU tubes for slightly chunky MTBs besides Tubolito?
Secondary question: how do TPU tubes work as spares? I'm short on space in downtube storage so have these on the radar
I found them great as spares, but not everyone agrees.
Pirelli do a range of them, think they cover larger sizes too.
'OVTK' sell one advertised as 2.3/2.6 so ideal sizing for you - although the listed weight is 100g so not ideal if you're truly gram counting.
There are a whole bunch listed as 1.9-2.5 (some actually list 1.9-2.6) which I guess would fill a 2.6" as a get you home, but may be a bit of a stretch.

Secondary question: how do TPU tubes work as spares?
I carry one as a spare. It packs down small. I think the big issues is that if you have to use it, it will never go as small again?
Actually the larger one you have is ideal.
The more the tube has to expand, the more air slowly seeps out due to the microscopic pores in the rubber.
