riding to eyam yha on saturday, with my son, who only has a roadbike.
from penistone we were going to head over to langsett and over the strines road, but i am looking at alternative routes just in case.
looked at the tpt from penistone, through the bottom of wharncliffe to sheffield.
i have ridden it on a mtb, but cant remember if it would be ok on a roadbike.
anyone?
Not done it all but the bits I have done are gravel so doable but far from fun on a road bike
It can get awfully muddy and tends to hold onto a lot of water... however there has been plenty of sun this last week and all/ most other trails nearby are dry.
In terms of trail surface I would say yes.
I live 100yds off the trail in Millhouse Green. The trail is surfaced from where it goes over the A628, locally called Bullhouse, to just past Cheesebottom Tunnel which is level with Thurgoland. It then gets quite muddy past the stables at Finkle Street and onto a gravel road through Wharncliffe. Your best bet is to get off the trail just after the tunnel and drop into Deepcar, then through Outibridge into Sheffield.
I wouldn't recommend it on a road bike. Doable but it wont be much fun.
Stick to the quieter roads and you'll be reet.
looks like a slow hilly slog from leeds to eyam via the strines they..... 8)
It's perfectly dry but a little gravelly so a road bike isn't ideal.
