Back from my first go at a little bit of touring on my recently finished Genesis Tour de Fer. Only a couple of days on Anglesey but enough to have me wanting to come back for more. We had planned to be there for 4 days but neither of us fancied pitching tents in the wind & rain on Tuesday evening - it's meant to be fun, not a chore 🙂
The bike was lovely. Very comfortable and nice, predictable handling. Was very glad I specced it with a load of nice, low gears too. Went with rear panniers and bar bag (both Ortlieb and they did the job nicely) but I'm sure a front rack & panniers will appear at some point in the future.

Looks great. Nice weather for it! Had my first outing with panniers this weekend, short one from Durham to Middleton in Teesdale, coming back on the Sunday down through Hamsterley Forest, and now keen to get out for a longer trip. Need to replace the knackered cheap tent though, and the broken sleeping mat, and get a smaller sleeping bag, and...

This was my first attempt at riding with anything more than just a single small pannier (commuting). Tent, sleeping bag and mat all worked well but I'm sure I'll find other things I need to purchase / replace!

I'd start with something less bulky than a Trangia!

Nope, not in a million years. They don't take up much space at all and are a delight to use.

That looks like a lovely trip. Just my thing!

We're off soon too:
Dump car in Preston, train to Ravenglass on the Lake District coast, then follow coast to Carlisle, turn left towards Dumfries, the right at Newton Stewart over the hills to Glentrool, Ayr, Glasgow.... Train back to Preston.
I can't wait! 🙂

simondbarnes - what was your route?
If you go back Wavecrest Café in Church Bay is fab. Best scones in Wales

You almost rode past it, you might not like Penny's amazing scones though...
