My delta cruiser plus which are heavy and dead tires Need replaced. They are beyond bald. ....but have succumbed to only one flat in living memory and that was a tire steel wire on the shoulder in northern Canada that would have likely flatted a solid tire 😉

Replacement delta cruiser appears to be 15 quid.

Any real reason to go back to marathons -from.what I remember on my last bike that ran marathons was they were equally shit to ride....

Typical use case.....winter miles and 4 panniers plodding touring.

Conti touring plus or ride tour plus worth a try ?

I find too long in the saddle is what tires me most. I try to do 4 x 2hr shifts each day.

As to what I put on my wheels, I can't help you with tyres I'm afraid.

I find Marathon Supremes to be an excellent balance for a touring tyre. They're not bullet-proof but they are pretty hardy and they roll very well. Must be the Supremes though, other marathons are very draggy.

like donald said, marathon supremes. 7k a year here on em, still going well.

other marathons are also good, but dead feeling and slippy in wet commuting stuff.
oil on white lines are deadly with em.

I loathe mnarathons - zero grip and draggy. 7000miles out of a tyre - that make it not fit for purpose for me. I want grip

Big fan of conti protection tyres with the black chilli compound fast rolling and grippy

I was impressed with Conti Touring Plus on the commuter, never had a puncture and rolled pretty well. Not sure if they're still available though?

I bought a 35mm Marathon Supreme earlier this year to put on the commuter rear, no complaints so far. Sizes a little small, ~33mm.

They were on offer at Merlin at the time.

I've just seen they do a conti go 4 seasons in a 32 marketed at touring/winter it looks like it meets my needs very well perhaps other than the cost of course. But can we really put a price on happyness ha.

I guess it won't be as bomb proof as a marathon but equally it's not made out of a hard plastic and won't do like 7000km. Might not be my first choice for a cross continent tour but my tours for the foreseeable at limited to the local area.

Have you tried the Supreme version of the Marathon TJ? I find it the perfect touring tyre.

I had some Vitoria Voyager Hyper tyres which are very similar to the Marathon Supremes and they were ace - miles lighter than normal marathons and felt a lot quicker straight away. I only got them as they were on offer but I would t hesitate to get the Supremes if I needed something similar again.

I've switched from Conti Contact Plus (which replaced the touring plus in their line up) to the Conti Contact Urban on my touring bike (which is currently being run as an e-commuter with a Tongsheng conversion). The ride is so much nicer, grip is good and they've been reliable.

Marathon Supremes arrived today.

Main belt of tire good and thick.

Side walls thin as ****.

Easy to see where the weights saved

But I'm ok with that Keep pressure up for loaded and it'll be grand.

It doesn't need to be a Michelin comp 16 for touring

Well the marathon supreme gets a thumbs up from.me.

Rolls much faster. Still copes with off-road well

And did nearly 400km this weekend fully loaded with 4 panniers tent etc on old railway lines and off road into the Cairngorms without so much as a grumble. Now to get a matching tire for the front.

Sorry - late.

Marathon Supreme's roll well and are light but you won't get 7k out of them and they're expensive.

I've been using Pasela's for years on both tandem and singles and really like it though some people find the sidewalls a bit fragile.

I've also used Duranos (One's now?) for touring though they're supposed to be a fast Audaxy/day tyre. Again, sidewalls can be an issue. I used to get 10k km out of a pair but the recent flavour needed swapping at 6k km as the front was nearly bald and had more eggs in it than Tesco...

My recent 'find' is the Conti Gatorskin Hardshell. 32c on the tandem. The target is at least 6k km and no damage. Its early days with these so too soon to say apart from they're a full 32c rather than a skinny one which might influence size choice.

Supreme's are nice but not worth north of £40 and our tandem rear squared off (like a motorbike tyre) after about 2.5k km.

I don't want a tyre that lasts half a million miles. I want one that grips! conti gatorskins last me a thousand or two miles ( black chilli rubber) More than happy with that for a fast rolling grippy tyre

My recent ‘find’ is the Conti Gatorskin Hardshell. 32c on the tandem.

I put a pair of them on my old CAADX for commuting duties. A world away from the 28mm I'd previously used on my road bike, in terms of comfort, very impressed.

Sold the bike before I'd put any decent wear on them, about 2k miles
