Hi

I've a Revolution Country Traveller which I quite enjoy but miss not being able to dive off down tracks etc when out for a run.

Would it be worthwhile trying to convert to a more CX spec, thinking perhaps carbon fork, seatpost, decent cx tyres and removing mudguards.

Thanks

B

Hi

Should have said is it worthwhile or would I be better selling and looking for a cx bike.

Thanks

B

Touring bikes are built pretty tough so it should be able to go down tracks no problem just as it is, especially if it has some larger tyres on (e.g. 700 x 32).

If you feel the need, take the mudguards off and put some CX tyres on and don't worry about anything else.

Just ride it off road as it is. I regularly take my commuter/winter road bike off road. Apart from the tyres being a little slippery (24c), it's fine, and quite robust enough.

At most, swap the tyres for something with a bit more tread, and go from there!

My Hewitt Cheviot is pretty good on light off road duties, but it is probably a lot heavier than a cx bike at 35lbs.

It feels a really tough bike, so I'm confident that it would be up to the job; but I reckon a cx bike would be a lot quicker and easier to ride.
