Pondering swapping the obligatory Audi estate for something a bit bigger - mainly so I stop borrowing the work van so much! Ideally want something I can fit two bikes in, wheels on and upright. Current front-runner is a Touran but I'm not sure the boot is tall enough as I need about 1m20. If not, then I think it'll be a Sharan (or Alhambra/Galaxy), provided they have enough length. Who's using one of the above for transporting bikes, and are they big enough?

We have a 2010 or 11 sharan and I can only get my 26" small BFe in upright with the front wheel removed.
Not at home at the minute or I could give you dimensions.

I've got a Touran (56). Can't get bikes in upright.

I've never tried, but I reckon it'd be possible with my Galaxy.

daviek, if yours is a second generation Sharan with the sliding rear doors then I think they're smaller than the first generation that I'm looking at - cheers!

New Galaxy with rear folding third row here - I can get in 26" bikes upright, saddles down and front wheels off.
You cannot fit bikes upright complete, unless small mrs_oabs Trek, and I fold all seats down to wonky insert it, then flip seats up.

Personally, the four bike tow bar rack is great, and fifth bike goes in boot across rear, no wheels on.

Ours is the second generation with the sliding doors, loads of room with the back and middle rows folded down.
I say I need to take the front wheel off but ive never tried to put the bike in squint the put it upright but I still don't think it would work. Seat belts are handy for strapping the bike in place though 🙂
