Hi all I'm doing the tour of flanders next month. I'm stopping in a hostel in bruge as it's cheap and plan on driving to the start in oudenarde in the morning. So was just wondering how good parking was? Will traffic be bad? And how far is start from car park. Any help greatly appreciated ta 🙂

I assume you're not riding the long course then.... 😉

Traffic will be busy but not too mental
There should be plenty of parking around the industrial estates on the entrance into Oudenaarde

It's around 45mins drive plus add 15 to get from the parking to the start

Aha
You are going to watch the race , not ride the sportive (I misunderstood)

Why are you going to Oudenaarde? 🙂

All depends where you aim to go to
Finish line is a bit of an arse to reach

Take a look at the RvV website
It includes maps of the shuttle bus service from the industry park (bruwan)

We've always ended up parked alongside the N459. I seem to remember that there's a very nice Chocolatiers in Beverestraat 😉

When I did the long route we got the train from Gent to Brugge for the start, then back from oudenarde to gent, very easy to do and cheap, the 40 minute wait in 2 degree temperatures on the train station was a tad unwelcome after the ride
We then got the train back to oudenarde the next day for spectating and drinking beer!
There's shuttle buses to the bergs as well!

Then the parking is just fine and as you have a bike it takes no time at all to get to the start. Last year they just used all of the roads around a nearby industrial estate and people parked on the verges and rode to the start. Once you get close to the town it become one big queue but it's well managed and everything keeps moving

hope you have a great day 🙂

Does anyone know of a good place to go watch the real thing the day after the sportiv? I've watched the finish when it was in Ninove and there was a brilliant set of stands all the way along the finishing straight with beers, frites and a big screen on tap. The tour buses were also just setup in a local car park so it was fun to watch the mechanics in action

So, any suggestions for good spots to watch? Even just being in the main square at a cafe would be ok but the atmosphere on the climbs is great although without the beer on tap nor the screen and commentary for the rest of the day

tx all

There is a lot going on at / around Oude Kwaremont

They pass 3 times and there is a big screen too in the public area
It's called the Lidl Powerzone this year :))))))

Around the key climbs you can follow the race in car and see it seversl times culminating with the crescendo at geraadsbergen. Seen a lot of races but never seen pro riders try so hard and suffer up there. Great weekend

We watched it on the Paterberg a few years back, they looped through a few times and the last time it was the final climb of the day and that was the time when Pozzato and Ballan decided to try to drop Boonen.

Tom was clinging on by his fingernails, the roar as the stridently partisan Belgian crowd realised what was going on and urged their man to bridge back on was spine tingling.

Plus the field next to it had a big screen, beer, frites, mayo, small children selling Flanders lion flags etc etc. All a bike nerd in Belgium requires.

As above, parking very simple, you drive to the area and are shown where to park. Then take bike out and ride 2 mins to the start. I think from parking up it took me 15 mins to get ready, get my number and set off

Nice leisurely ride followed by a few really nice beers

perhaps not all that leisurely.

Think tide of humanity on bikes, folk jumping into every gap, carnage on the Koppenburg. Absolutely brilliant!

We're staying in Gent this year as some of the group going didn't pay up in time and we missed the more local accommodation. 🙁 I think the plan is to ride from Gent, do the medium route then ride back. Doing it on my single speed road bike again. 🙂

It is a brilliant weekend. Le Carillion at the edge of the main square after the ride OK?
