Planning to head over to Wales tomorrow to catch the race.
Can't decide which will give the best viewing experience.
Anyone know the route, or got a strong sense of these two?
Brecon i'd advise you.
I don' t want too many people getting in my way on Caerphilly mtn ..
So, really will Caerphilly mtn be a good place to watch?
I'm not actually familiar with Caerphilly mountain but I know the Brecon climb well and it's pretty tame (it's longish but not much gradient) so unless there's a vicious headwind there (which is actually quite common) then it might all go past pretty quick (even Cav :p ). It says Caerphilly mountain hits 12% and given it's at the end of the sage it might be more interesting.
Brecon is more open to view over a longish distance but as FuzzyWuzzy says it's not a massive gradient. Caerphilly would be more interesting I reckon. Both are likely to be packed. I may head towards Lyswen although viewing probably not so good there. Decisions, decisions 🙄
Pics from Gun Hill today seem to suggest that it was very busy out there so I imagine it'll be the same at Caerphily - the Welsh turning out in force to support Geraint Thomas...
I would expect a split at Caerphilly Mountain which will decide the stage winner- so should be a great place to watch. I reckon watch on the first half of the climb then dash towards the finish to catch the race again.
That said I agree with Mooman... I want a good spot so I heartily recommend Brecon 😀
Enjoy the race everyone!
I'm torn between hanging around Caerphilly Castle to see the finish or finding somewhere on Caerphilly mountain... I think both will be equally packed.
I'm marshalling on Caerphilly mountain, so will get a good spot, I hope, knowing my luck I'll be the car park attendant!!!
I heard the marshalls are being used to pick all the dog shyt up .. great idea too.
Caerphilly mtn will be terrible place to watch .. Honest!
As for watching first half of climb then racing down to watch them finish ... If u are that quick u should be in the tour with them.
Nah .. Best u all go to Brecon to watch.
And the burger bar on top of Caer mtn is terrible too ... Best you all give that a miss ..
Also as well as dog poo beware of doggers on Caerfilthy mountain!!!
if i was off work i'd probably watch it on the climb from the a470 just pasty the top of the brecon beacons on the climb on the road towards hirwaun on the a4059 near cartref resevoir.
dogging on Caerphilly mtn???
Nope. All thats kept on the seedier side of the mountain ... Castle Coch & Wennalt is where its at ... unless you know the scene better of course ..
Thinking of going to Mtn Ash to see the Sprint
Awesome crowds on Caerfilthy Mountain! Really good turn out by the Welsh
