Another Lakes advise thread please . best off starting from Blawith as advised on Pedal north as parking seems limited or would it be worth starting at Coniston ?
Ive done Walna scar from Torvor before parking and finishing at the Wilsons arms seem like a better plan ?
Starting at Coniston means no mid-ride cafe stop. 😯
There is parking at and around Blawith, not really a car park as such at Blawith just a layby at the side of the road. Just looking on Google streetview and there's parking directly opposite the lane you use to head onto Blawith common as well as a bigger layby back towards Greenodd.
What is mid ride op you speak of ?? 🙂 Had a look at the layby at the side of the church just looked a little remote
Depends on your definition of remote I suppose. So long as you don't leave valuables on display then it's as safe as anywhere else in the Lakes.
Small car park Here is usually quiet and can get a few cars on.
Is there any dictionaries in Coniston do you reckon? 😛
We always use that car park at Water Park that Lowey linked to.
That way you're finishing on Parkamoor 😀
I normally stop at High Cross Grizedale. Does give you a climb to finish though. Also normally means I'm descending to Nibthwaite as the Kankku 4x4s are hauling themselves up the bedrock. 😥

Last three occasions I've been down that track, its been like a motorway going up.
Thought it was just me who was cursed. 🙂
Looks properly dull, sitting in a big orange box, with a guide driving?.Last three occasions I've been down that track, its been like a motorway going up.
Cheers for the advise , the one Lowery and Ekky linked to looks fave , finishing with a happy ending 🙂 4x4 permitting
Holy thread revival batfans
The gpx on bike treks is being nothing but a pain can anyone help me out me out please this being the one https://www.bike-treks.co.uk/content/route-guide-003-mtb-circuit-of-coniston-quality-descents-best-kept-secret-out.aspx
What I will add I was going to start at Torvor and go up to stephensons ground and up that way to the top of Wanla is this the best way up ?
From Stephensons ground, Head NW toward Brock barrow and then onto seathwaite, its a cracking descent, but means hoofing it back up onto Walna scar road.
Well worth it.
Cheers Nobeer I did that last time I was just thinking if we follow the route on bike treks you don't get the full run down Walna ,where as if we get to Stephenson we can follow the river Ickle to the top of Walna rather than go up from Torvor
Steve,
I did that exact ride a few weeks ago. I've emailed you the GPX. it also takes in the Crowbery Haws footpath into coniston from the bottom of Walna.

That route's a bit shorter than the Pedal North one. The climb from Torver to Tranerth on the Bike-treks one is vehicle track, not sure/can't remember what it's like after that.
The bit from the end of the forestry at the top of the Ickle over to Walna has one very soft section of a few hundred metres. Ace views heading that way though. As Nobeer says, you could head down to Seathwaite from SG but that does mean you get the whole of the Walna Scar climb!
Received with thanks Lowey , just what I needed, can I ask how long did it take from Stephensons to Walna and I assume mostly ride able looks like the right of the river then cross over
If you just want the run from top of walna scar, also poss to head north east/north from stephenson ground to join WS road higher up (cuts out full descent to Seathwaite). I've done it and the traverse is OK in most parts.
Again thanks B.A.nana
Steve - right side of the river (going up) is a forest fire road. There's a bridge just out of the forestry. Left side of the river going up is singletrack. Timewise 30 - 45 mins, but can't remember exactly plus I was stopping to take shots.
Thanks again 🙂
