I'm fed up of Schwalbe - two rear Hans Dampf cut and/or torn blocks and now cut and multiple small leak Magic Mary. All super gravity snakeskin, all damaged across tread. All had less than 10 rides...

Some of this is eldest_oab is now really shifting at races and practice, so battering through stuff may may have floated before.

So, what tougher but similar endooro race tyres in 29er 2.4ish flavour? I'm also not paying £100 a tyre...

I've always been very happy with the DH carcass Minions, you don't get any choice though.

Abigale has been running Blck Dmnd Butchers for over a year now. 2 6 on the front and 2.3 on the rear. Put a new pair on at the beginning of June and her dad is now running the old ones.

I've just bought a set of Michelin Wild Enduro 2.4's to go on my Evil Offering, they're getting rave reviews and at £44.99 rrp they're not ridiculous money either.

I'll post my views when I've had a few rides on them.

^^what he said.

Tough, easy to tubeless, grippy as hell, cheap as expensive chips. £80 a pair on wiggle for the top end Enduro version.

The SuperGravity casing is much thicker than almost everything else mentioned - what on earth are you doing to it? It's certainly thicker than the DD casing and much much thicker than the Wild Enduro.

Bontrager SE range have tough sidewalls, SE5 front and SE3 or 4 rear.  Michelin Enduros are also very tough and grippy (they survived a 5 day trip to Wales and me riding amazing hamfistedly at BPW)

Never had any problems with the toughness of Maxxis DHF and DHR II tyres, and they're very grippy. Ardents are tough, too, the only time I destroyed one was when I got a puncture from an industrial-sized nail on a farm track.

I've trashed 3 Maxxis tyres around Friston, HR2 where the knobbly bits fell off, and ardent sidewall removed by a flint and another sidewall puncture on a Minion SS (all were silkworm/Exo flavour).

SG casing is pretty heavyweight (1250g+ for the 29er). Probably only the WTB tough comes in heavier of the non-DH tyres from what I've seen.

I'd try that but otherwise it'll have to be a full DH casing.

I was gonna suggest SuperGravity Schwalbe HD & Mary, but if they ain't proving tough enough then I take my hat off to your lad and point him towards a proper dual ply for the rear.

Can't see any other "enduro" tyre being notably tougher than the SG ones. I put about one or two holes a year in them (same with WTB tough).

If destroying Schwalbe SG on more than a random basis then it is possibly down to riding style.

I imagine sliding the rear, great for tearing nobs off and slashing tyres.

I run SG Rock Razor on the back for sliding around switchbacks, if away for 3 to 4 weeks in the Alps that will be upwards of 65000m of descent at pace with a 14st non finesse rider aboard. they will then go the rest of the year at home plus Scotland, Wales and Lakes etc.
A normal Majic Mary up front.

Run high end inserts too.

I know my lad (19) tends destroy tyres and loves drifting the back around, when following I see pound notes flying out of my pocket.

Good luck but SG are pretty robust so not sure where I'd go after that.

IME of running Schwalbe (mostly SG casing) is they are universally shyte.

I've never slashed so many sidewalls, or treads, or lost so many side knobs, or torn them generally to shreds in such a short space of time as I have with Schwalbe. No longer bother with them in any capacity.

Have found Maxxis DD considerably tougher, and have been running a DH casing on the rear of my 170mm 29er which will stay on for the coming month in Whistler. Absolutely no issues, other than being a Maxx Grip it will be well and truely dead by the time i'm home again.

I save myself the agro of trying to pick tyres all the time. It's either going to be a Shorty, DHF or DHR2.

I have been running maxxis assegai on the front and dhrII on the rear for the past month or so, both DH casings. really rate them as a max grip option, the weight penalty of the downhill casings is well worth it IMO.

Never used a DD but aye, the DH Minions are way tougher than an SG. Thicker and stiffer, too. And less heavy than you'd expect as they use a folding bead instead of the usual steel. Shame there's not much of a range.

I actually get on pretty well with the SG Rockrazor on the back of the Remedy, but I don't count it as a "tougher tyre"- I'm just using it as an everyday trail tyre. Basically to do the job Snakeskin's supposed to do.
