Son is currently pushing the boundaries of his Vitus Sommet at local bike park/uplift days at revolution, the rear stpi 25 rim has been straightened once and my superstar rims he's on at the moment are creaking. Now he/i certainly ain't buying a second bike for DH, so i'd like a set (or just a rear) of tough DH rimmed wheels on non DH hubs to swap in or out as required. I'd probably look for second hand Hope DH rim, as there seem to be a few knocking about and I know and trust Hope wheels, but are there any other choices or pitfalls out there?  Any advice welcome!

Default choice these days seems to be a DT EX511, they do a full on DH rim as well but that could be overkill.

DT Swiss Ex471 is definitely worth putting on your list

I've used both of the DT rims above and they are definitely up to the task - I am about 110kg kitted up and am known to hit all possible rocks and obstacles that I should be avoiding...

If you an find a DT XM1501 wheel set that'd be my personal recommendation. Seem very strong and light.

If you can DT FR560s will last a long while.

If you mean WTB ST i25s - the DT EX471 rims will be significantly stronger IME of owning both.

But if it's specifically for DH use I'd go for the FR series, they must be absolutely bombproof!

Yeah well that's the dilemma, something for Revelation, Havoc, Antur etc then swap back, or just a tougher wheel he can ride at enduro's, local ragging AND the park days. It'll likely be decided on price and availability .....

Thanks all,

Clumsy and 90+ kilos and never had any issues with Flows of any flavour. The WTB i35 I have on the front at the minute is holding up well too.
