I don't use ebay much but and I guess this happens a lot, but someone could get seriously ripped off here. The advertiser is making out this bike is almost new and hardly ridden. The fact is that it's an original BLT and not a BLT2, so it's at least 5 years old, not 7 months old as claimed. The respray is presumably to cover up the trashed state it was actually in. The MBR reviews he quotes are for the BLT2, not the BLT.

Should someone (me?) post a question to alert buyers or just let it be?

He decides if the question gets posted on the add. If someone is looking to buy a BLT2, I'm pretty sure they will know what they are looking for.

Edit: I couldn't help myself, I told him for you.

Ah, I didn't know that about the questions.

Some people looking specifically for a BLT2 may realise its a con, but anyone just looking for a good bike would have no idea, and end up getting totally ripped off

Edit
flow - thanks. I guess he's not going to take any action though.

Could be it's a stolen bike. Odd spec with Marz forks, dropper post, single ring but long cage mech

I really can't see a problem, no where does he state its anything other than a Blur LT. He could have easily bought the frame 7 months ago, probably a deal on an old frame. And its well spec'ced.

But it is a good bike (nothing wrong with a Blur LT), and as said, well spec'ced. Just a bit dear, but then you can offer what you want.

I didn't know the difference so googled it. Seconds later, I see that you're right.

I would hope that anyone about to spend £2k on a bike would be capable of doing the same......

He states that it's 6-7 months old, and the MBR reviews he quotes are for the BLT2. SC stopped making this frame in 2007, so no way it's been hanging around an LBS for that long

In all honesty, the way the advert is written should alert people to the potential issues.

It's apparently been babied throughout its life, so why on earth would it need new bearings after 2 months? Why, if it's essentially new and under warranty, is the shock going to Mojo for service - just doesn't make any sense to me. The claim is that it had been ridden for a maximum of 3 weeks.

I smell fishiness.

Can't honestly see anything wrong with the ad ? (bit pricey maybe?)

He doesn't claim anywhere that it's a Blur LT2

He says quite clearly that it's a Blur LT ?

He doesn't claim that it's 7 Months old either.

He said he bought it 7 Months ago. He didn't say he bought it brand new (my LBS sells loads of used bikes) ?

Seeks a pretty honest advert to me really.

Nowt particularly misleading i guess but still doesn't quite stack up. Amusing that he says that 'the only, and i mean only reason for selling is he's been offered a killer deal on another bike'.....but then says he might be interested in a swap for a mondraker at the bottom.

I agree he doesn't actually state its a BLT2, but everything else is designed to mislead:

In the spec list he specifically states the frame is 6-7 months old
He says the bike would be worth £4400 if built today
Several times he quotes the MBR review of the BLT2

Edit
Just don't want to see someone get ripped off. That bike probably isn't even worth £1000 let alone £2000

And if the frame was only that old why get it repainted?

To be fair, he does give a reason. I don't believe it, though I have known people have virtually new bikes resprayed before now.

I don't see nowt wrong with the advert. Its clearly listed, plenty of pics. Guy never said it was the newer model Blur, also did he say he bought it new? no. If you have the money and like wasting it then why not have the frame painted to a colour you like, even though its new!

The guys feedback looks ok, he's been on ebay a long time and sold a lot of things.

Worst crime he has committed is being a bit keen on the price. But considering he will have spent a lot of money trying to bling it up and bespoke it for his own needs. Surely you can see where he will be coming from.

I'm glad I don't live next door to you people little snitches who have nothing better to do than report peoples ebay adverts and try and screw there sales up. I thought my neighbours were nosey snitches too!

Hardly the worst crime on ebay that one. There is a Cannondale rush or rise for sale at the moment with RS Toras on it. If that’s not fishy?

I would think anyone spending close to or over £1k on an old bike would need to know what they are doing and be capable of a bit of research!

Why not? Seems very probable. We had a Blur XC for a similar length of time.

Looks total legit to me, shock went to Mojo under warranty, which he's mentioned, he didn't like the colour, but it was a bargain, so he bought it. He says he 'upgraded the bearings' not sure why you'd bother, but seems reasonable to me.

He does say they're Elixirs whilst they're Juicy Ultimates, but that's about it.

It's overpriced, but it's not like it's actually an Apollo painted as a Blur. Some people really do over analyse things.

He said

Frame is now roughly 8months old was in Local bike shop Cornwall Cycles Penzance (01736651671-please ring they will tell you this frame was BRAND NEW when i bought it off them)all parts were new when they went on bike, link to review is the LT1 as far as i know, and beyond grease ports and slight diff in geometry of top tube there is no difference. But thanks for your time.

To be fair, the only issue I had with the ad was overuse of the word awesome. Nice response though Kingkernow.

I'm happy if things turn out genuine, but it's the curtain twitchers that report most genuine crime. People that are doing nothing wrong at the end of the day have nothing to worry about other than being observed going about their business.
Given the amount of stolen stuff that disappears, it pays to keep your eyes open and make a noise if a bit suspicious. If my bike got nicked and turned up on ebay, I'd be more than happy if some weirdo nosey curtain twitcher spotted it on there and only thought it was weird because of a fork swap over.

oh, decal on fork on wrongway - not technically a crime, but.

For £2k I'd at least want some research into the correct placement of the decals following a new paint job.

WTF is a shope?

Ye olde???

Could be it's a stolen bike. Odd spec with Marz forks, dropper post, single ring but long cage mech

Good one. WTF is wrong with that?

Dave (Blur 4X owner. With a dropper seatpost. And a 1x9 setup. With a long cage mech. And it did have Marzocchis on until I went Magura, then Fox. Which makes me a crook. Apparently.)

I have to confess I had 100 mm Manitou R7s on my Cove Stiffee for a couple of rides (didn't have the intended fork to hand). It turned a really nice frame into something fairly unremarkable. Now that was criminal.

But this was never crime, the OP was apoplectic at the fact the advert contained a quote referring to a newer version of the bike 🙄
