What route is that? Haven't heard anything described as a "forest loop" up there. There are hardly any trees

It's the loop that runs to the north of the yha, behind Liathach.

Behind Liatach?

There is no best way.

Push up from the car park on the road to Kinlochewe, turn around at the top and ride back down.

What scaryhairy said.

Good descent. If you do it as a loop you have to carry your bike over rocks in the middle. Can't recall how long it took us maybe 20- 30 mins?

Go and do the tollie path at the top of loch maree if you want owt diffrence. Do it as a loop through gairloch.  Could park at slatterdale .

It's a deer forest which is a peculiarly Scottish thing and basically means a shooting estate.

There has been quite a bit of work done on the path at the back of Liathach but I haven't ridden it since or gone all the way over so I'm not sure how much less carrying that means.

The highlight is the descent to Glen Torridon so clockwise is the way to go.

If you’re driving for hours to get to the area it’s not a ride worth doing. If the hike a bike has gone it might be ok, otherwise better routes are available

Lollipop option is the best way, less hike a bike, starting from Annat, and no road.

That's a different route.

Ah yeah should have said it was circa 2008/9 when I did that trail last.

Ah yes sorry. I did ask the same question last year, and the answer was pretty much no point to do it. Other suggestions were given ,like the loop around Beinn Damh. I went last year, and discovered some nice trails at the start of Kinlochewe around Beinn Eighe.

In defence of that route round the back of Liathach, the scenery is absolutely spectacular, especially just now with snow still in the high corries.

Ridden today and didn’t find the hike a bike too bad (depends what you’re used to admittedely).   Yes there’s about 2 miles in the middle that’s only rideable in part, but cracking descent too finish.  I wouldn’t say it’s better than the lollipop route but an option for something that’s less of a time commitment, perhaps a day 2 option with lollipop on day 1.

FWIW was about 3 hours 45 for me to do entire loop incl stops.
