Hi, looking for some trail reports of the Beinn Damph loop (thinking anti-clockwise) and the route up & and down from Annat. I appreciate almost next no riders will have been up there this year unless you're a local, so feedback from anyone who's been up there last year or 2 would be most appreciated. I'm fit so should be able to take on most routes. I will be solo though.
I have 2 mornings at best to ride and will have to ride in from Sheildaig. I will be on a time limit too so any suggested alternatives must be realistic.

I'll report back how I get on.

Thanks

I'm looking at the up & down from the Torridon Inn too so that's looking a good possibility.

Know a lass who rode the big loop last weekend, said it was all good as usual.

If you're short on time, there's a really nice out and back from Kenmore to Applecross and back, some really nice singletrack that works well both ways.

Yes I know that one. Its a fair old bike along the road to get to it though. Was going to save that for visit to Applecross....maybe later in the year.

It's all rock on the lollipop so should be fine. The slog round loch damph is always wet.

I'm jealous need a trip north

I'd suggest pushing up the Ben Damph descent and coming back down, much quicker and easier if time is of the element.

Maybe that's what you meant by "up and down from the Inn"?

You're gonna push up from Annat and come back down I assume?

If you have a full morning you could push/ride up the Mael Chean-Dearg climb from the lochan, descend toward the bothy, turn left at the bottom and back up and over to Annat.

Set out for a walk last year from the Inn, with mrskcal - stayed nice, so kept on going, ended up doing the Beinn Damph loop, which was lovely but a bit later than planned and ended up with a phone-torch-lit river crossing. oops.

Thinking that the push up and back down is the efficient option. Doing the loop does entail a big push up anyway to get from the loch to the col. So a lot longer to get the the same point. Might get more done. Thanks for the reply's so far.

The loop via the Ling hut is a much more efficient way than pushing up Annat and on to the top of Coire Lair (AKA the lollipop). More rideable uphill, and a shorter HAB.

I did it a couple of weekends ago, it was all as normal. The higer part of upper Coire LAir gets a bit more eroded with each passing year (water, not bikes), but otherwise business as usual. Type 1 fun in spades!

Have done the loch damph loop a couple of times and wondered if anyone has done it in a clockwise direction. Seems like it could be better in that direction but it probably isn't as all the guide books send you in an anti clockwise direction , along the lich side , up the climb and down the descent back to torridon .

I can’t see how a soggy, grassy descent to the Loch would be better than the rocky tech down as per the guide books?

It was great. Singletrack along the loch is a bit overgrown, probably not helped by a lack of traffic this year, but perfectly passable. Wet as ever but quite good fun in and old school way. Track up to the head of the hydro makes the climb to bealach a bit quicker and easier. Descent was the same as ever, lumpy and loose. Really enjoyed doing it on the S-150 for the first time - a bit like cheating. Slippery on the last section down through the woods after crossing the burn. It has been a bit wet here so plenty of water about generally, but a lovely ride.

Rode a week ago now. I did the push up from the hotel, crossed the burn and up. The descent was not as bad I was expecting but still a bit loose and washed out in sections. That was maybe my preconception of much more bedrock. I was solo so that made me hold back a bit. Over a bit too quick.
Need to go back with some mates and do the loops properly.
