Ok, having written off 2 stems in the past stripping threads , i am still thinking about buying a torque wrench. Now looking at 5-25nm types as it seems to cover most bikey things, however they come in choices of 1/4 and 3/8 drives , which is better or does it really not matter as long as sockets match.
Also before i drop some cash on this do i really need one or am i just kidding myself?
A 5 - 25 might not be that accurate towards the bottom end of that range.
For stem bolts etc, I do them as tight as I can get with the short end of the hex key.
1/4 inch has the option of allen key heads. you can do that with a 3/8 inch, but you'll probably need an adapter
You do not need a torque wrench, just learn to consider and pay attention to what you're doing. I'd say that it's better to learn how to use keys/spanners and recognise what sort of torque is necessary for different components.
