Hi all,
Both of my arms are knackered, the right has been very sore for about 6 months and has gotten progressively worse to the point where it is painful when riding, it feels like the tendons right in the inner elbow (tennis elbow?)
Then on Friday night I think I've torn my left bicep muscle, its swollen and very sore and I cant get anywhere near full extension and is definitely too painful to ride.
I've phoned the doctors this morning but missed todays appointments and the nearest bookable appointment is xmas eve but will try again tomorrow.
In the meantime, anyone had this before, what sort of recovery times am I looking at and should I be resting or doing some gentle exercises?
thanks
Not convinced your doctor will be able to advise, probably more a physio's area of expertise. Tendons take ages to fully recover/repair, longer than you'd think. Rest will help but also active recovery, massage etc. Go see a physio.
thanks, yes I thought that but was going to the docs as the first port of call for a physio referral?
I've had both these injuries, from climbing rather than biking though. Get a physio referral or even better find a recommended private one.
Bicep tear should repair fairly rapidly (muscle has good blood supply compared to tendon/ligaments), golfers will take longer, often ends up chronic if not sorted properly (mine lasted 4 years on and off). A combination of light use and physio exercises should settle down the elbow. Both injuries are often related to shoulder stability issues putting the elbow under excessive strain - ask the physio.
Thanks, private physio appointment booked for tomorrow, interesting you mention it might be related to the shoulder as I have a detached clavicle on the right side from a biking accident but that was 15 years ago?
