I need to get a new battery and charger for my Solar storm X2/Uniquefire light.

I've had over a year out of it so it doesn't owe me anything.

Are MTB Batteries really worth nearly twice the price over Torchy?

MTB batteries assembles his own 'replacement' battery packs, using quality cells and throughly tests them, & so can provide a custom pack to your needs. Iirc he's not looking to corner the market of replacement battery packs, but had demand for them, so provides them at a price that cover his costs. A lot of ppl are willing to pay for that, I for one have a custom pack he made up for me over 6 years ago, still going strong.
Torchy is only a supplier of batteries (& other stuff) admittedly he seemingly does seek out better quality kit from China, having ranted about low quality batteries & chargers from almost the start of the light 'boom'

I know if your skint, which your going to choose, if your not, maybe a quality product supporting a geniuine nice guy running his own small business appeals to you.

I've bought batteries, chargers and lights from both. So far I've been super impressed with both too.

I get the feeling that MTB Batteries (Smudge) is dedicated to producing faultless kit that can be relied upon for years. His batteries are used in industrial applications too. Such quality control doesn't come cheap. That's why I was happy to replace my ancient battery pack with another one from him for about £60. The old one only failed because I drunkenly rode it into the canal at midnight about 12 months ago. It was only the protection circuit that was damaged and Smudge also offered to fix that for me.

However when I needed to get a £70 light (inc batteries & charger) for my son last week I agonised over Torchy and Smudge before going with Torchy's BK7even. And blimey, that's a lot of light for the money!

I think most up there cover it.

I have an original Lumen Liberator with Smudge-pack that's still going strong after 6yrs.

If I needed a specific pack made up to last for years, Id go to smudge. If I just wanted 18650 cells that werent all ripped from laptops and fake-branded Id go to torchy for VFM.

Smudge's customer service is excellent. I wouldn't hesitate in buying from him again.
